    Default 98 TA LS1 ECM or 01 WS6 ECM?

I have a 98 LS1 for my 57 Chevy project with the wiring harness already built to for the 98 TA motor. I intend on building a built .60 block for turbo aplacation and swapping is alter i get the chassis tweaked.

I found a guy who carbed a 01 WS6 for his hot rod and has everything on the pull out. Would it be better for me to get the later model ECM for my buildup?

I've only worked on tuning 3 cars
    1932 ford roadster (with the 98 LS1 that's not in the 57)
    98 Corvette
    98 Z28

    is it worth the trouble?

    thanks

The 2001 PCM allows you to run an OS that is easier to tune with.

I'm looking at COS3 or possibly 5 with a 2 bar MAP and no MAF with remote boost controller so i can run a nice street able 5-6 PSI and jump it to 10-12 PSI when i need it.

If you want COS5, then you need a PCM that will run OS 12212156...
The 2001 F-car PCM (GM part # 12200411) will do that.

OK, the geezer is asking something.

You have a 98 wiring harness? If you use a 99+ OS, you would need a 99+ wiring harness wouldn't you?

The later model PCM would be great but you'd need to bring along the wiring harness with it OR rearrange the 98 wiring harness pinouts at the PCM to reflect the 99+ arrangement.

Going back to my nap now...

Doc has the info on doing the 98->02 conversion... I believe he repinned the PCM connectors...

I should collect together all the relevant threads and sticky them.

Stupid Question: What's the difference between the 98 LS1 and the 99-07 LS1 PCMs? Seems SOME have 1MB flash, but most have 512K.

I'm sure the MB is different in the newer models but the wiring is the same for the 99+. THe 98 is the bastard step child and has different pinouts at the PCM.

97-98 PCM's are not 512 kb's, not sure what they are but there the bastards of the LS PCM World, and not capable of much tuning wise

99-02 LS1 PCM's are 512 KB and are recognizable by the connectors on the PCM itself beeing labled as red/blue

03+ PCM's are 1 MB and i belive some of the newer ones are even 2 MB
