I made a cable to hook my LM1 to my V2. The tutorial says to select options, then setup. When I click options, there is no setup on the next screen and licensing is my F1 choice. I am sure I fail to do something right.
Help anyone???

Is this a new V2? Even if it is, you may need to do some updating of the V2. Has it been through all of the black box updates?

Can you find out the versions of your V2's bootblock and firmware...?

Also, read and understand this before do any bootblock/firmware update:
showthread.php?t=9375 (http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?t=9375) <-- see posts #9 and #10.

This is what I have found:

I have;
V7.5.5 Build 78 W/usb driver 2.2.4.0

I am still looking for EFIlive explorer... Any help please?

I looked up how to determine bootblock and firmware and My V2 displays differently than the prompts in the quide. My f4 options > f1 licensing > next options are f1 display license, f2 add vin, f3 add stream, f4 upgrade bootblock. If I choose f4 I have the option to upgrade to 2.5.08.

I realize my updates and EFILive skills are behind the curve due to letting it sit for so long. I am catching up though and truely thank you all for your time!

You will need the V8.1 software to install firmware and bootblock updates.
The latest builds are here EFILive V7.5 and V8.1 (http://www.efilive.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=124)

If FlashScan has boot block V2.05.08 please perform these steps:
1. Program boot block V2.06.02.
2. Program the highest version number firmware file from the folder:
\Program Files\EFILive\V8\Firmware

I looked up how to determine bootblock and firmware and My V2 displays differently than the prompts in the quide.Thats due to the firmware being an older version.

My f4 options > f1 licensing > next options are f1 display license, f2 add vin, f3 add stream, f4 upgrade bootblock. If I choose f4 I have the option to upgrade to 2.5.08. Somewhere in there is a display for the firmware version... you might have 2.04.72... BUT, do not proceed until you are sure... post up here... and read the document that mr.prick posted, read it carefully and understand it completely (print it out and live/breath it for a few days...:hihi:)... if you understand it completely the upgrade will go good.

Would there be any harm in running the wideband analog for now and getting the V8 update when the regular update comes about. Or will I need these updates eventually anyway? There seems to be so many warnings and cautions for the v8 and firmware updates. I'll work on finding out what firmware I am on now. Thanks again

Its not going to get easier, if anything more complicated.
The latest release should have the prerequisite firmware for the bootblock upgrade as well as the newest version.

Go ahead and use the analog for now if you want it will still work.

I hear you. do you know how to find out the version of firmware I am on. I need to know so i don't get the wrong update I quess. That is somewhat confusing in itself. Seems like the latest and greatest would be what you'd want , but I am following along the best I can because this stuff is above me. Thanks for helping

It`s been a long time since I updated without EE.
IIRC you need to hold the CTRL key while plugging in the V2,
and there was a firmware update.exe.

With my V2 I can find the firmware by:
F4-------> F3---------->F1-----scroll right 1 screen (2 for bootblock)
options - licensing - license details

Yours my be different but,
you should be able to find it by stabbing at the buttons. :throw:

Go thru all the V2 menu subitems (scroll down on some pages) until you see the firmware version.

I held ctrl and pluged the V2 into my laptop, Looked into the firmware updater and clicked on status...
I found :Bootblock version 2.04.10 and firmware version 2.04.72.

What's my next move?

A. If FlashScan has boot block V2.04.xx or earlier, please perform these steps:
1. Program firmware V2.04.72.
2. Use FlashScan’s menu option to upgrade the boot block to V2.05.08.
3. Program firmware V2.05.20
4. Go to step D.

B. If FlashScan has boot block V2.05.04 please perform these steps:
1. Program firmware V2.05.14 (unless V2.05.14 is already installed in your FlashScan).
2. Program boot block V2.06.02.
3. Program the highest version number firmware file from the folder:
\Program Files\EFILive\V8\Firmware

C. If FlashScan has boot block V2.05.06 please see this link on EFILive’s support forum
http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?t=7813.

D. If FlashScan has boot block V2.05.08 please perform these steps:
1. Program boot block V2.06.02.
2. Program the highest version number firmware file from the folder:
\Program Files\EFILive\V8\Firmware

Make sure your computer is plugged into A/C and not using battery power,
to reduce chances of going into stand by or shutting off.

Not to scare you but make sure your car is in a drive able state before upgrading.

I am up to the point to install V8. I do install V8 on top of the v7.5 build 80 right?. I just want to make sure...

mr.prick
February 15th, 2009, 09:24 AM
Yes, it is separate from V7.5,
you will need it for newer firmware and bootblock updates.
The old firmware updater will be obsolete.

I get the "The selected firmware file can only be programmed into the Flashscan device" when I click on the program button.

It says to uncheck the boot block check box, but it its unchecked already. ???

I am in the dead pole due to being recently programmed bootblock .

Thanks in advance for any help.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\EFILive\V8\Config
to the V2.

You can drag and drop them, or copy and paste them.
Hold ctrl to be able to select more than one.
You can install them all or the ones you want/need.

LOL I`m not sure if they are necessary for pass through, but they are for BBL.

You got the firmware/bootblock upgraded sucessfully, good job...

To configure V2, as mr.prick said, drag and drop from within EE...

Configure FlashScan and/or AutoCal for BB logging:

1. Using the EFILive_Explorer program, select the [Config Files] tab page. The explorer view in the top half of the window will automatically display the folder continaing the *.pmm and Options.tst files.
2. If you have both FlashSCan and AutoCal connected to you PC, select the device you want to configure, by checking one of the FlashScan or AutoCal radio buttons in the lower right corner.
3. Click the [Format] button to format the Config File system in FlashScan or AutoCal’s flash memory.
When loading beta test updates, you SHOULD reformat the Config file system to ensure no incompatible files remain.
4. Click and drag ALL files from the Config folder in the top half of the window to the [Config Files] tab page in the lower half of the window.
Hint: hold down the Ctrl key (or Shift key) on the PC keyboard to select multiple files and then drag all highlighted files to the [Config Files] tab page.
The Config file system is only about 1Mb in size. If you attempt to copy too many files or files that are too large, then the copy will fail. Make sure the only files that exist in the config folder are files that were extracted from the downloaded zip file. Sometimes files from older releases are left in the config folder, they should be deleted.

Also, goto the Scan tab and the folder C:\Program Files\EFILive\V8\Scan and copy the .dtc files.

More hints...

Using BB Logging:

Before you can log any data you must format the Data File system. The Data File system and the Config File system (that you formatted earlier) are kept in different areas of the flash memory. You can safely format one without affecting the other. You can only format the Config File system using a PC and the EFILive Explorer program. That prevents you from accidentally erasing the configuration files while "out on the road".

FlashScan supports two Data File systems: An internal flash memory chip which can hold about 2.7Mb of data and an external SD Card that can hold between 64Mb and 2Gb.

To format the internal Data File system, press Ctrl+Backspace, then use the left/right arrow keys to change the File sys: setting to Internal and press OK, then to format the Internal file system, select: F4 Options -> F2 File System -> F3 Format File Sys.

To format the SD Card File system, press Ctrl+Backspace, then use the left/right arrow keys to change the File sys: setting to SD Card and press OK, then to format the Internal file system, select: F4 Options -> F2 File System -> F3 Format File Sys.

You can also format the SD card using a PC card reader. Select the FAT32 (or just FAT) file system when formatting the SD Card via a PC. If you do that, you must create two folders on the SD Card:
\EFILive\V7\Scan (which will contain the BB logging files)
\EFILive\V7\Tune (which will contain the tuning files)

WARNING:
NEVER insert or remove the SD Card while Black Box Logging is in progress (or any other operation that writes data to the SD card), you will lose some or all of the data stored in the internal flash memory and/or data stored on the SD Card.
The blue LED on FlashScan’s keypad will illuminate whenever FlashScan is writing data to internal or external flash memory. Note: the blue LED will only illuminate when the LED Mode is set to “S” (Status).
1. Using FlashScan's keypad select F1 Select PIDs, then select the desired vehicle controller by using the up and down arrow keys, then Ok to select the desired controller.
You can also set up hotkeys to quickly select one of four preset PID lists.
2. Once you have selected a vehicle, FlashScan will return to the main menu.
Select: F2 Scan Tool -> F1 Data Logging.
Select F1 Record Data to begin recording, or F2 Display Data to display live data without recording.
You can also just press the 0 key to start logging.
3. Pressing Ok during data logging will toggle pause on/off, the same as using Ctrl+Spacebar in the PC based Scan Tool Software.
4. Use the up and down arrow keys to reveal more PIDs.
Use the Left and Right arrow keys to scroll up and down a page at a time.
(Hint: When held down for more than about a 1/2 second, the keys will "auto-repeat" just like a PC keyboard.)
5. Pressing F1..F4 and Ctrl+F1..Ctrl+F4 will insert the notes 1 thru 8 into the recorded data.
6. Pressing Enter will toggle between Metric and Custom units.
7. Pressing Ctrl+Enter will toggle between small and large text display.
8. Pressing Ctrl+DownArrow, will toggle “inverse screen” on/off. Inverting the screen can help visibility in direct sunlight.
Please check EFILive's FlashScan BB Logging Beta Forum for updates, hints, tips and tricks that are not described in this Readme_First.rtf file.

WOoPs, wrong boot block, now I have...
Bootblock version 2.06.02
bootblock date oct 16 08
firmware version 2.06.06
firmware date dec 14 08

I am pulling the EFI live out again after months of down time due to time and computer problems.

Can someone refresh my memory on getting my bootblock and firmware to show up on my V2. The directions from this thread don't help since they are from an old version. The above versions are the ones I assume I still have in my V2.

Thankks in advance!!!

Looks like I am on the latest bootblock 2 06 02 .
Can I upgrade straight to the firmware to V2.06.012 from 2.06.06 or do I have to upgrade the ones in between one at a time until I get the latest. Just want to be sure I am doing this right!

Yes, latest bootblock is 2.6.2.

Latest firmware is 2.6.24.

Yes, you can go straight from 2.6.6 to 2.6.12 or to 2.6.24.

See here for latest 7.5.6.104/8.1.2.84 software: showthread.php?t=12834 (http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?t=12834)
