View Full Version : Controlling Data Collection Rate

Can the data collection rate be controlled with BBL? I have noticed that when I am using BBL the FlashScan collects data a much shorter interval than I would like. Great for the strip, not so useful for a trip.

I just realized I probably put this in the wrong forum, but I can't delete it. If one of the mods could move it to the proper place, I would appreciate it.

Which subforum do you want this thread moved to...?

If you have a very long log, you can use the scantool to cut/delete parts of it out.

I thought it might be better in the Scanning / Black Box Logging forum.

Thanks

If you have a very long log, you can use the scantool to cut/delete parts of it out.

The problem is that I would like to log on long trips, and at the default data collection rate it will fill the SD card quickly with a huge file. I don't really need millisecond time frames, probably more on the order of seconds.

Thanks

There is currently no option to reduce the speed of the BBL frame rate in FlashScan V2 BBL. However, it is something that will be implemented. The slow rate is around 1 frame per second.

Note: FlashScan V1 does allow the data rate to be changed.

I just did some tests with the new (fast/medium/slow) scan rate options and here are the stats:

For VPW based vehicles (i.e. LS1, LB7):
Fast = 10 frames per second.
Medium = 2.5 frames per second.
Slow = 1.25 frames per second.

For CAN based vehicles (i.e. LS2, LBZ):
Fast = 40 frames per second.
Medium = 5 frames per second.
Slow = 1 frames per second.

Thanks for the clairification Paul. At 40 frames per second, I can see why it is creating very large files very fast! Great for the drag strip, not so great for logging on long trips. I do like the nice range you have set with the fast medium and slow options. As I now understand it, my V2 Flashscan can not have the rate set, but when the V8 software is released, the slow, medium and fast options will be available. Is this correct?

Regards,

The V2 firmware was originally designed to support all those three modes, I just hadn't got around to adding in the option to allow the user to select which mode. It only took 30 minutes to add it in, which I've now done. It will be available in the next update to the V8 release candidate software available here: http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?t=10766

Hopefully this weekend - if I can find a solution to a particularly difficult bug that I'm working on now.

Regards
Paul

That is great!

I like the interface. It also made updating my firmware completely painless. I am looking forward to the next version.

Thanks Paul.
