hello everyone,
after updating to the latest firmware 2.06.08 then 09 I'm having a problem with the LC1 the BBL keeps on triggering the free to air CAL every few seconds.

all values are shown correctly but not sure why it keeps on doing that.

Nasser,

How can you tell...?

Can you take some pics...?

Do you have the serial AFR cable...?

Do you have the LED/pushbutton connected...?

I have a serial cable yes and it was working just fine before updating to the latest firmware,
I have a digital gauge installed from Innovate to keep watching my AFR all the time and I can see on the gauge when it's warming up or Calibrating the free to air or the heater.
and you can see that on BBL LCD too now.

now the reading is messed up from the repetition of the free to air cal and I have to reprogram the gauge again but I'll do that after sorting out this problem.

I'm investigating...

Confirmed (unfortunately).

FlashScan is transmitting the PID data out the serial connection even when the serial connection is set to WO2. It should only be transmitting PID data when the connection is set to Dyno.

Whenever a certain byte sequence is transmitted (i.e. part of the PID data), the LC1 thinks it is being commanded to do a free air calibration.

I will fix it and send out a firmware update asap.

This is happening because of the firmware?
I have been cruising around all day yesterday and today with
LC-1 to serial with no problem.
I did however notice AD2 does not work since the new firmware.
AD2 died (http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?t=10860)

The LC-1 requires a lower case 'c' to be transmitted to calibrate it. If the PID data contains a lower case c then the LC-1 will do a free air calibration. It is possible, that a 'c' does not appear in the PID data being sent to the serial port. It did not appear in the serial data we tested with here, hence it was not picked up before the firmware was released :(

I'm pretty sure the AD problem is not firmware related. Has the AD1 also failed? The 4 AD's are paired 1-2 and 3-4. If there is a hardware fault 1 and 2 will fail or 3 and 4 will fail.

Do you mean you tried with the new V2.06.10 firmware, or are you saying it is working with the current V2.06.09 firmware?

What are the symptoms of the LC1 to indicate that it is not working?
Obviously if it entered free air calibration while in a normal exhaust stream (i.e not in free air) then you'd need to recalibrate in free air.

sorry for the previous short post I'll make it up in this one :).

yes I tried the V2.06.10 firmware and now BBL doesn't trigger free air, heater calibration....

What are the symptoms of the LC1 to indicate that it is not working?

as far as my problem goes, BBL was triggering all calibrations in a random sequence too fast that the LC1 was reporting off scale numbers then it dies and resets it self, the first time that happened I just recalibrated the free air and my gauge was showing my normal AFR reading again, next time I used the BBL after updating to the V2.06.09 from V2.06.08 it did the same of triggering all calibrations and the LC1 resetting but this time free air calibration didn't fix getting back my normal AFR reading so I thought maybe I have to reprogram the LC1 which I tried and found that the LC1 is using the default values, I tried to change the values to the old ones but programing doesn't stick it keeps on going back to defaults and sometimes random numbers, I checked Innovate website and found there is a new firmware for the LC1 so like a computer geek who loves updates I downloaded it and tried to program the LC1 with the new firmware but it failed the verification process and my LC1 is somewhat dead it doesn't report anything.

that was my long version of the short post

I'll try to do a first time setup and see if it comes back to life otherwise I'll need a new one but not sure if LC1 is a good choice again though it has been working for me for the last few years with no problems at all.

See if Innovate will repair the failed LC-1 firmware flash at no cost.

I dont think there is/was anything wrong with your LC1 before the latest firmware. I had the same problem... I tried a free air calibration and my V2 seems to have bricked my LC1. The LED does not turn on when I turn on my ignition, and my LM Programmer cannot contact it.

Anyone have a fix for this? CRAP! This is turning out to be an expensive f#$%ing beta.

Blacky,

FYI: I noticed a similar problem immediately upon using the BBL w/2.6.09, but I'm not sure its limited to Free Air Cals. I think its possible a random pattern of data sent my have triggered a firmware reflash of my LC1. In this case, following connection to the V2, it immediately "lost it". I also noticed the
lmprogrammer would no longer work w/the unit.

Since I consider LC1's disposable, I removed mine and put a new one in. I have not tested the BBL logging with it yet. I had thought since LC1 was basically a dumb terminal of output, this was not likely to happen and for some reason I had thought EFI only listened, not spoke unless asked to by keystroke w/the V2, such as 'c' and the other avail commands.

the LM Programmer still can connect to the LC1 and read the stored values and flash the firmware but it fails the verification each time at a different percentage which makes me suspect my USB to serial adapter.

I'll try the first time setup and see what happens.

Have you tried going back to the older LC-1 firmware?

FYI: In my case, I downloaded the new Innovate firmware to my new wideband and had zero problems.

I went back and tried to do a reset and initial calibration, then a free air and nothing. Totally dark. I was not running the latest LC1 firmware.

It is officially bricked. I was using the xx.09 firmware on my V2.

My lc1 just took a poop as well... just after updating the V2 to 2.06.09. It would do free air cals randomly and now it won't respond to anything. At first I didn't think it was related but seeing all these other problems makes me think twice...

Its a little early to throw the towel in. In my case, the LC1 was heated and swollen, so I pitched it when I took it out. The 2.6.9 just speed up the process. The LC1 is a popular FTDI chip and can probably be reflashed by Innovate.

I can no longer read serial data from my LM1 anymore...

Hahaha. Thats true. I am much more calm now. I opened a cold Corona and then everything was fine. :)

I love the new v7 and v8 software and new interface and BBL so much, I wouldnt trade it for anything. It is true the LC1 is the Kia Sephia of widebands. I guess you get what you pay for.

(now where is my damn bottle opener?)

Keep up the good work Blacky and crew! Great product and excellent support.
Bring on the firmwares!

got another LC1 handy?

I managed to fix BOTH MY LM1s!

anyways... i was able to connect to the serial interface with a lot of trials and errors and I managed to do a firmware update on them... just trial and error... I would start one and get the program to open up...

after the program opened up I would hit RESET CALIBRATION and VOILA!!!!!! do a firmware update and you are done!

So all this is just from using the LC-1 with serial alone,
or from free airing the LC-1 through V2?
I used V2.06.09 with no problem.
I can't remember if I got to use V2.06.08 :hihi:

Goldfinger911

No. Only one LC1.
Whats the solution?

You are probably going to need another LC1.. If you have another LC1... follow my suggestions above. If you don't keep reading.

Try to power up the LC1 outside the vehicle or attach a battery charger to the car to keep a constant Voltage... These craps are susceptible to voltage changes...

Try to see if you can get the program to work/find the LC1... it will take a LOT of tries.. just keep trying till you give up... once you don't and manage to make the program find the LC1... hit reset calibration and all "should" work... do not close the program..Rather update the firmware... if it doesn't work.. KEEP TRYING till it succeeds.

That is how I have fixed my 2 LM1s and the spare (older one) 3x now...

There is an issue even with the current firmware where its tripping these innovates...

aside to that... I do NOT see the serial light flashing. I had made a post earlier about the LM1 not transmitting when it was connected to external power. I believe it was because of the latest firmwares we have all been working with.

both!!

it has happened with both... actually.. last night.. trying to revive the LM1 I managed to flash it incorrectly and it went totally dead... at least the screen.. but they still function and/or accept data...

So... again.. did it.. and after a few tries!!! whew... and this was using windows 7 also :)

Highlander did you leave the key on and open/close the LM programmer until it connected or did you leave the LM programmer open and repeatedly turn the key off/on? I have been trying to connect to my lc-1 from the pc for a while now and no-go. I hope I can get this thing working again so I don't have to send it back to innovate.

Highlander

pool, i did whatever i could... i powered up and down... i kept the power and tried flashing many times... often times it would find the device and try to flash it... I have to revive an LC1 in these couple of days from this disaster...

One thing I want to clarify... I reflashed .10 firmware and my serial programming is working correctly...

One problem I AM having with these LM1s now was trying to program the analog outputs... But.. since I am no longer using them.. Again... I have no issues with them.

Raven
May 24th, 2009, 05:24 PM
I updated my USB to serial driver and I was able to flash the firmware and my LC1 is working again. I'll just have to do the fresh air calibration, I'll do it using DFCO without taking the WO2 sensor off.

I flashed the LC1 with the 1.10 firmware hope that doesn't give me trouble.

I tried today:

1. Stock PCM and reflash. V2 worked fine. LOL I had forgot how to use it and kept trying an older model vehicle. I'm used to the RR :doh2:.

2. Put RR back in and VE tuned. The LC1 and datalogging all seemed to work
ok. Note, I do not use AD's.

I'm using V10 of the firmware.
