View Full Version : AutoVE without thermostat?

As of now, I have a surge tank system that doesn't use a thermostat. My temps come up a little slower than they would with a t-stat and the only times my ECT is pretty stable is when my electric fans are controlling the temp. If I get on the highway, or its a cooler day the temp will have a hard time reaching 180 and is by no means stable.

Am I wasting my time trying to do AutoVE with a setup like this? Any tips on how to deal with this?

Thanks guys,
Sam

Anyone have to deal with this?

IMO
That ECT is a bit low.
195F - 205F is best.

I know that, but thats not really possible right now unless I restrict airflow or something. I am running no thermostat as of now and Im wondering if I am waisting my time trying to do AutoVE?

I think so, unless you can keep your ECT steady.
I had an EWP and in the winter time I could not get up to 180*F
at highway speeds.
This made fuel overly rich.
Are you going to add a tstat later?

I am unsure if I can put one in with this type of system of not. It was something that was kind of out of my control at the time.

Does anyone know if you can take the block off plate out of where the t-stat goes and put the t-stat back in with the surge tank system? I know its kind of an odd question but thats my setup as of now..

You can do it! Make sure you have your fan temp enables set so you can bring up the heat, and just filter out any frames with ECT less than 175F. Too easy.

Good luck to ya!

If he can get that high.
Performance wise, ECT less than 200*F is not ideal anyways.

200F is ideal, but 175 will work. As long as temps reach that you're marginally A-ok. I've got a 160 t-stat. Even on a cooler day, my ECT's will reach 201-202. Of course I've got an LSX block, so temps get a little higher. But, he "should" be able to reach those temps in 80+ weather if his fans are setup so they don't kick on till 200 degrees.

Try these settings out:

{G0901} Fan #1 Turn-on Temp 210.000000 °F
