I have a 55 Chevy that I have put a new LS3 crate motor in, with the E67 controller ( This is a GMPP harness and Controller that goes with this particular crate motor (LS376/480)). If I purchase the EFI Live, will I be able to program the controller? Will the EFI Live software ask for a V.I.N.? Since my car is 54 years old, the VIN number doesn't have the standard number of characters.

Before I buy, I want to know if EFI Live will work with my retrofit conversion.

Thanks for your help..

Hi Brian,

Does your crate motor use the LS3 controller mentioned here: http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/Parts/LS_Controller_Kit.jsp

If yes, then I believe it is supported by EFILive.

I pm'd Tech Support for more guidance.

If your controller does work, then EFILive will lock a license to the controller's serial number when you flash that controller (regardless of VIN).

See this: showthread.php?t=9759&highlight=GMPP (http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?t=9759&highlight=GMPP)

The EFILive software uses the VIN to determine which parameters are available for scanning/logging.

When the software first starts you will be asked to enter a VIN, just enter 1Gxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Only the first two digits are scanned, the rest of the VIN can be xxxxx. Later, you can program any VIN you want into the controller.

You should make the first two digits of the VIN one of:
1G
2G
3G
4G
5G
6G
6H
then it will be handled OK. The rest of the VIN is ignored by EFILive.

If you want the first 2 characters of the VIN to be something other than the list above, let me know and I'll explain how to modify an EFILive config file to accommodate the different VIN.

Paul

Is there any significance to these first 2 digits? ie. Does 1G or 6H indicate anything?

Yes, its part of the first 3 letters of the VIN which identifies the manufacturer.

What it means to EFILive is that the GM enhanced PIDs will be loaded if it sees a VIN with those first 2 digits. Otherwise, only the SAE generic PIDs will be loaded.

It is controlled by the *VINCONFIG section in \Program Files\EFILive\V7.5\Configuration\sae_generic.txt

# ================================================== ============================
# VIN/config files
# ----------------
#
# This section determines which additional config file(s) should be loaded
# based on the VIN detected in the connected vehicle.

*VINCONFIG

#VIN Config file
#---------- --------------------------------------------------------------------
1G......... gm_enhanced.prn (USA GM)
2G......... gm_enhanced.prn (Canada GM)
3G......... gm_enhanced.prn (Mexico GM)
4G......... gm_enhanced.prn (USA GM)
5G......... gm_enhanced.prn (USA GM)
6G......... gm_enhanced.prn (Australia GM)
6H......... gm_enhanced.prn (Australia Holden)

You can add new VINs to that list of you need/want.
