A total noob I want to get into tuning my forced induction GM Truck using EFILive but am having trouble picking a package and understanding the licensing packaging to suite my needs.
I have a laptop running Vista. I do not see my self tuning for anyone else for a long time anyways.
So what is the best package for me? I don't mind having the laptop in the vehicle. How many licenses come with it?
Thanks

You get 2 licenses. You will want the commercial package so you can install the custom OS.

therock, welcome to the forum...
FlashScan V2 Scan and Tune (http://www.efilive.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_EFILive.tpl&product_id=63&category_id=11&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=56) comes with 2 PCM/ECM/TCM licenses and supports OS/COS flashing (as said by nevinsb).
Check the Supported Vehicles (http://www.efilive.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=100&Itemid=82) to make sure your truck is supported.

Thanks,
I tell you. I have never seen anything more french to me than the efilive product site. Why can it not be more simple? A noob with money is not well taken care of.
I just want to know what I need to tune a 2005 Silverado with L33 5.3. And the price? And will it not run on Vista? Why do I need another operating system?
Thanks

They were referring to the OS of your truck....(custom OS's are available also) And yes there are different OS's, quite a few actually!

Runs on XP and Vista :)
The "Custom OS" goes on the PCM and allows you to command different AFRs throughout the RPM range.

Thanks Guys,
Now I'm getting somewhere.
So, the Flash & Scan - V2. I guess there is no econo model. Figures.
As far as custom OS's I just want to be able to access my truck. I do not see me getting fancy. A little info on why a custom OS would be nice.
I have been paying through the nose for tuning. I want to stop it here. I'm tired of shucking out a couple hundred everytime the weather changes or the gas goes to a summer blend or I want to try another pulley.
You guys hear me out and tell me if I'm crazy.
I know one just does not jump in and tune an engine. It takes time and Reading, reading, reading.
I plan on accessing my tune and posting it up to the likes of you folks and perhaps others and get opinions and do comparisons. I hope this will give me an idea or orient me to the feel of it and help me shed training wheels.
I downloaded the demo and its useless to me. And most of the features pop-up as "Not Available Yet". It looks like this hobby or trade takes some experience before one can even know how to purchase.
I disparately need a noob's guide to it all. I'll be lurking for sure.
So, Flash Scan V2............. What comes in the box? Recommended Vendors please?

Unless someone has one, I can take a picture of the box contents tonight after my new camera shows up.
Make sure you also download the 7.5 version. This is where the viewing of the log files and the tuning is done.
As I mentioned before, the purpose of the "Custom OS" is to command AFR other than 14.7 in areas other than the Power Enrichment (PE) table which is only at full throttle. On a turbo engine, you will want to create a curve to give you an idle of around 14.7, and around 11.5 while under boost. Without the custom OS, you can try to fool the PCM into thinking the 11.5AFR is 14.7, but the COS3 makes this a lot easier.
Take a read through the Custom OS and AutoVE tutorials available on the efilive.com site. It should give you an idea of what is involved.
