My laptop is a MacBook, dual booted between OSX and XP. Rather than always reboot to XP for tuning, I just tried setting up an EFILive-specific VirtualBox instance in OS X, and it seems to work perfectly. Plugged in the FlashScan V2 and added a "USB Filter" to VirtualBox such that the device is always directed to the virtual machine. Have been able to tune and log with it, and even upgraded the firmware.

Probably works just as well with VMWare or Parallels, but VirtualBox is free from Sun: http://sun.com/virtualbox Note that you need the "Sun" version rather than the "open source edition" to have USB support.

And yes, I'd love to have Linux on this machine too, but three OSes is too many, OSX works so well on laptops and XP is unfortunately required for some things I do. :(

I have run EFILive on WinXP running on VMware Fusion running on Mac OSX...
it ran perfectly, I flashed my PCM, no problems...

the problem was that other software was having problems running slow...

so now I use Boot Camp to boot Win XP directly.

I've been happily flashing my E40 PCM from WinXP through VirtualBox on Ubuntu 10.10 x64. Works nicely :-)
EFILive itself runs perfectly fine on Wine too, but of course there's no access to the USB hardware for flashing/reading calibrations.
