Let me explain what I'm tryin to do. When I done my heads and cam a couple years ago I had a mail order tune done because I had no way of tuning it. I ended up just buying another pcm from the tuner so I could still drive the car while the pcm was being tuned. Well as I have learned a mail order tune does not work so well with larger cams. I have sine bought EFI Live and have got it tuned perfect. Well since I have this other pcm I was just gunna flash it with my current good tune just to have a spare in case something would happen to the one in the car. So I hooked up EFI Live and went to flash my tune in to it and it says the VIN isn't lisenced to my cable. So I looked and the spare pcm has a different VIN than the one in my car and the cable. So in order for me to flash my spare pcm do I have to spend the money for another liscense? That's crazy because it's the same car I thought I would be able to flash the correct VIN in to the pcm but I forgot I can't flash it. Is there any possible way I can get my VIN in my spare so I can put my tune in it if I need it?

A license it is locked to the PCM not the VIN.

I thought Flashscan uses the VIN within the PCM ?

If it's a 97 or 98 PCM no additional license required.

It locks to the SERIAL NUMBER within the PCM, so each PCM needs a licence.

FlashScan V1 PCM License (http://www.efilive.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_EFILive.tpl&product_id=20&category_id=13&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=56)
FlashScan V2 VIN License (http://www.efilive.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_EFILive.tpl&product_id=23&category_id=13&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=56)

FlashScan V1's PCM licensing scheme does not rely on the VIN but on other, non-VIN data, unique to each controller. What that means is, a PCM license is required for each controller that you wish to reprogram, regardless of the VIN that is programmed into the controller.

FlashScan can be used to reprogram the VIN in the engine and/or transmission controllers if desired. Reprogramming the VIN in a controller does not require a license.

You can change the VIN but you can't change the tune without using a license.
You can not trick Flashscan by changing the VIN.
