View Full Version : Car feels sluggish after MAF removal

Hi all,
after driving for over a year in SD mode but with the stock 75mm MAF sensor installed in my Vette, I removed the sensor 2 weeks ago and replaced it with a straight piece of 3.5" aluminum tubing.
Previously I was getting reduced kPa readings at WOT (96-97), so I thought it would benefit WOT operation if I remove the MAF.
Well, it improved kPA a little bit on the WOT side, although when I scan for engine torque I don't get any higher values than before.
What concerns me more is the loss of acceleration in the low end and mid range. The engine is definitely revving up slower after the MAF removal.
Is this normal?
Should I put the unused MAF back in to gain back lost torque?
The engine is a LS1 with ported LS6 heads, very small cam, vararam intake, ported stock TB, LS6 manifold and shorty headers.

Thanks
Alex

Hi Alex,

You may have to do one more iteration of AutoVE (i.e. with the straight tube).

Hi Joe,
I am contantly monitoring BENs and have not found any major changes in fueling requirements that would lead to the experienced weak engine response. The values are all within 1-1.5% deviation.
Are there any other possible causes for this phenomenon?
Thanks
Alex
