View Full Version : I paid for EFLIve, why can't I flash COS3?

Hi - I purchased the commercial version of EFILive Flashscan V2 several years ago from Justin Gadberry (Black Bear Performance) and last night attempted to flash Custom Operating System 3 to my PCM and received a dialog box stating that this feature was only available to users with Custom or Workshop versions of the software ??? Apparently there is a licensing issue with the software, will someone please tell me how to address this so I can use the features I paid for? It would be much appreciated - Thanks.
Mr. P.
PS - forgot to add, I am running build 7.5.5.88

That's really odd. Can you post a screen shot? All the COS's are free AFAIK.

I trust you are connecting the FlashScan device to you PC prior to opening the Tune Tool? If not irrespective of your paid license level, the software will run in effective Personal Mode.
Check the FlashScan license level by:
- Connecting the interface to your PC
- Open the Tune Tool
- Select the 'Help->FlashScan V2 VIN Licensing' menu option

I already figured that - I re-plugged & restarted, I was able to do a full PCM read & save, and then opened/loaded COS3, typed in my VIN and tried to flash and got the dialog window. And I also immediately re-loaded the PCM backup, made a minor change and was able to push the changes to the PCM... but still do not have the option to upload COS3. The issue is not a USB communication issue (that I can tell).
HELP!

Do this:
- connect V2 to PC,
- open tunetool,
- go Help->About,
- post a screenshot of the resulting screen.

Joecar, Is there anything special in that new version you got?

It just the September 7th BBR beta test update...
it's for reading BBR files from V2 and comparing against the original tun file...
it has some other fixes/features, Paul will make ths available soon...
we have been testing it to make sure it's working right.

Dont let the regular people see the RC stuff, NOOOOOO!!!! Hahaha jk.
Run the update program for V7.5, cant remember what the latest public version is these days.
Plug your V2 in and tell us what Help->Register EFILive says. Should say Commercial Scan & Tune, basically make sure those details are EXACTLY what your blue card that came with your hardware says.

The blue registration card does say Commercial Scan & Tune (ser no 003615881589 if anyone from EFILive is monitoring this thread).
OK so what I am getting here is -
1. I have the right software
2. I have the right license
3. It refuses to work
4. Nobody on the forum has run into this before, apparently
I have Justin and Jenna's number at home, I'll just ring them tomorrow. I was hoping that I would find a past experience here to help, or maybe one of the developers chime in with some support.

Can you flash at all or just not COS'?
Is the firmware up to date as well?
Mr. P.

I can read/flash/scan, just not the COS.
FIRMWARE = 2.04.70
BOOT BLOCK = 2.04.10

Joe, are COS's available to be used on ALL PCM's?
I thought they weren't?
Mr.P
What vehicle do you have?
Tordne

The gasoline COS's (other than the E40 2bar) are only for use with the 512kb and 1MB 1999+ PCMs.
Good point thought. I don't see that having been asked and it is an assumption that this is what is being attempted.
Can you please post a screenshot of any error message you are receiving? Also have a look at this page (http://www.efilive.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=111&Itemid=121) and send any related .BLX file to
[email protected].

The truck is stuck dead in my friend's driveway. So I will have to get screen captures tomorrow.
The vehicle is a 2003 Silverado SS, current OS is 12593058, I am trying to flash COS3 03190003.tun.
Step-by-Step to recreate the problem:
1) boot laptop and flashscan V2
2) open EFILive Tune v7.5
3) open COS 03190003.tun
4) cut/paste the VIN from my truck into the VIN text box
5) click Flash menu item (first 2 options are disabled)
6) click 3rd option, 'Program PCM operating system and calibrations'
Software will show a dialog window saying that this requested feature is only available to Commercial and Workshop versions.
7) Click File menu option, click 'Close tuning file' option;
8) Click Flash menu option, click 'Read PCM calibrations' option;
9) Use dialog window to read entire PCM from truck, turn off key, wait countdown, dismiss dialog window
10) Save read PCM calibration to HDD
11) Navigate to B0702 Cat Low Protection Temp, increment temp 1-degree
12) Click Flash menu, Program PCM Calibrations
13) Use dialog window to write PCM calibrations to truck, turn off key, wait countdown, dismiss dialog window
14) Close EFILive.
I am a developer myself, I was very careful in testing to verify USB communication was NOT a factor. I will get screencaps tomorrow.

Its a licensing issue for sure, if you can read and perform cal flashes then for some reason the software doesnt think you have a commercial version.
Also, you're running OLD firmware on your V2, those are at least 6 mo old. I would suggest you download V8.1.2 and update the software like you do 7.5 then update the boot block and fw on your V2 to the latest.

I'm afraid I cannot duplicate your problem here, we'll wait for those screen shots.

Try uploading COS3 without your VIN number that you cut/pasted in before. Leave it as 00000000000000000 .

I'm pretty close to you , if you need a second opinion , I would be glad to come over and take a look .

OK Gang - whatever the issue was, updating the bootblock/firmware did the trick. I successfully installed COS3, walked through the tutorial, even drove the truck around for a few minutes.
Thank you ScarabEpic22 for the suggestion to update the Flashscan.
Now on to the next issue!!!

Awesome, really weird that not having the proper boot block and fw caused this issue. I was shooting in the dark, but its always great to have the latest and great everything though right? :D
Glad its all working for ya!
