I am at my wit's end. I thought the problem was a junk product from Innovate. I am on my 4th LC1 cable...the previous 3 have died randomly.

Decided to move up to an LM1, worked great for a couple days until the instant that I tried black box logging with the LM1 hooked up via serial. BAM, LM1 is toast. Thinking back, the others may well have also died as soon as I tried BBL with them...I just never added it up until now.

What is the deal?? How come I keep smoking wideband controllers with V2 BBL???????? :bad:

I would first like to hear from Innovate what has failed in your wide bands, it's only a serial connection, I'm not sure how anything can be damaged doing what you are doing.

I do not know if they keep records of past repairs. They have just sent me a brand new LC-1 back each time....however, when i send the LM1 back for repair (assuming they repair it...since they don't make them anymore!?) I will ask what the problem is?

There was a firmware a while back that had problems with serial connection
and AD inputs but that was fixed quickly.
FW and BB are up to date right?

I am no longer able to connect to the LC-1's with the Innovate software. Neither the LM programmer nor LogWorks can see the LC-1's on a setup that used to work fine. I can connect with the V2 RS232 just fine, and can read jibberish from the serial connection using Hyperterminal. I'm not ready to say that some odd interaction with V2 and LC-1 is responsible, as that is out of my range of knowledge. I just find it odd that a setup that used to work, no longer does.

Hey Paul, can I Telnet into these friggin things?

People need to quit sugarcoating it.

Hey Ross, in all seriousness, it appears that the only thing that can't see my LC-1's is the Innovate application(s) My expertise in datacom protocols is as near zero as you can get. Judging from other peoples experiences with them, I can probably rate the chances of Innovate fixing the problem as approximately the same level as me writing a new API for the damn thing. It's really starting to look like an issue with their software. Klaus appears to be a good engineer, but like many engineers, their assessment of their own programming skills is frequently optimistic.

All I want to do is to be able to reprogram the @#!** things. There HAS to be some way of talking to these buggers without their Windows app.

I know it doesn't help your situation, but I have used a LM1 with the serial cable to V2 BBL with zero problems for a year with no problems.

That documentation is easily available on request from Innovate, but none of it will tell you how to update the flash, just how to read the data stream and tell it to do a free air calibration. Most or maybe all of the Innovate devices just start spewing data out the serial port when powered up. I know the digital WB gauge I designed and built does not communicate, just listens and as soon as an LC1 gets power it starts reporting it's status.

If I could find the doc I'd tell you what it allows, but it must be on another computer.
