What is it about the ECMs in 2001 trucks that makes them so go bad? I've got a customer's truck that even the dealer can't reflash with the updated OS. Besides buying another ECM, is there anything that can be done with this? The odd thing is, the truck seems to run and drive fine!

What happened to make it go bad?
TechII has had a long history of corrupting 2001 ECM's, it will take the flash but then appears locked. As you say, the annoying part is the truck continues to run ok.

If they'll still take a flash, can I write a tune, based on the latest GM O.S. for that model year, then flash the trouble ECM or will it lock me out?

Actually it is the dealer that hosed the ECM last time it was flashed. Their software tends to lock down the flash capability in advertently.

The vehice will run fine but there is no way to flash it again without replacing the chip. Seems to be limited to 2001 OS.

Well that figures. Dealer screws up a customer's ECm then tells him he has to buy a new one. What a circus.

Thanks for the info everybody.
