Can rows and columns be added to the VE back up table to make it the same as the main VE table and flashed to the PCM?

Thanks,
Rick

No. I do not believe so.
You need to remember that Speed density (mafless) is a failure mode in the PCM, just put in there to get you to the mechanics or home to fix it. Hence the loss of resolution.

You will find most people will upgrade there operating system to a later model to get rid of the back up VE all together to make tuning easier.

rally1 is correct, most people simply upgrade to a 99+ LS1 PCM and flash the free COS for Speed Density in. Gives you full resolution when operating in SD mode plus a few other things.

It's a major overhaul to upgrade a 98 to a 99-04 pcm. Wiring harness and cluster is different and communication to the cluster is different.

Swapping PCM's may be an option at some point, but I think for now, I have what I need for a strictly track car where part throttle drivability is not a top priority.

But along the lines of this conversation.
I learned that if you set the MAF failure codes to inactive, that the PCM will not use the backup VE table.

Is this a possible solution to keep the PCM in the higher resolution of the main VE table in pre 99 pcm's? Or am I over simplifying this?
