How can I best use my EFILive to help diagnose a starting problem on a 2002 with water in the fuel? The tank has been flushed and the filter changed, it runs on ether but won't start. More specifically, what paramaters / data can I monitor to diagnose the problem? Thanks!

Never start the Duramax with ether it is well documented it can DESTROY your motor. Several have had an over rev and broken everything from rods to rockers.
I would suggest a lift pump with a dedicated water separator, much cheaper insurance to make sure you have fuel and it doesn't have water in it.

Thanks, and I agree with you. I would never do that, this is an older gentleman that doesn't know much about cars, just trying to help him. He did all kind of "ghetto stuff" before I got there :(
