So, I noticed we have the ability to calibrate the fuel gauge, speedo, and tach, any chance you guys have found the calibration table for the temp gauge yet ? Would love to get that sucker where it actually indicated my temps.

I believe the Temp gauge can't be modified because its calibration is in the dash itself. Many have asked this in the years before and noone has came to a solution except to purchase a aftermarket one and put it in the Pillar.

I went to the Camaro/Firebird "Invasion" in Bowling Green last September and asked a couple of GM folks about this. The temperature gauge calibration is in the instrument cluster but GM is very is tight with information about the cluster because of fraud issues with the odometer.

Wow this is still around... here's an old LS1.com post I Googled that I made in May of 2003:

"The later LS1 coolant gauge is programmed by the ECM via the classII buss. It's delta is increased at the thermostat opening range, apparently to eliminate complaints about "fluctuating gauges". The data is there, but is not being sent to the gauge, is 'modified' by the ECM. "

Apparently there was a programming change in the 1998's for they responded like a good old analog gauge...

As found in the 2000 GM shop manuals pages 8-17, 8-547, and 6-1342, for the 2000 Camaro, the ECT sensor enters the ECM on pins 74-C1 and 80-C1.
From the ECM (pin 58-C1 for LS1 and 59-C1 for V6), it then travels to Splice Pack SP200 to the IP (pinB6), the EBCM (pin 25-C1), the SDM (pin A4), and then also to the ClassII Serial Data Line, easily found at the Data Link Connector pin 2 (the OBDII Port.)

The 1998 uses a 3-wire temp sender and its cluster gauge acts analog because it is analog.

The PCM knows the correct temperature. It sends this to the cluster. It's the cluster that's programmed to lie.

OK, finally got to the bottom of that one. Thanks!

Anyone have a 1998 Shop manual? I'd like to see a scan of the Instrument Cluster pin outs -(the 2000 ones are found on page 8-560) - in the chance one of the unused pins is the input from the 1998 gauge or something like that. BTW, The Tech II can sweep the gauges from the OBDII port (see page 8-564 in the 2K manual). Hmmm, will the V2 unit do that? :)

I have a 160 T stat in my LS1 and I really did not see any place to change settings on this to program to the ECU. I read one post that said:

fan 1 ON=185 F OFF=180 F
fan 2 ON=194 F OFF=185 F

Anybody else have any input?

Are there any other settings that should be set concerning the fan?

Fan settings are pretty much it. I have just put in a 180 t-stat and my fan settings are lower than that:

Fan #1 on 180, off 172
Fan #2 on 185, off 180

I'm just wondering if you can't go lower. The t-stat will probably have an opening temp of 160 and be completely open by 180.

So yours runs fine at that temp with the 180 stat? I was in tune and mine was set stock at all fans coming on before 110. Wonder why that is? I used to use Hypertech programmer to adjust for 160 stat but got rid of it which meant I had to go back to stock.. wonder it that had something to do with the low temps in the computer??? ANYONE????:help2:
