Something is really not right for you. I suspect either:
- you have a dodgy PCM. There are no response from PCM and retires in the above which are irregular.
- questionable electrical connection from the ODBII port to the PCM. Are you able to try flashing that PCM on a bench harness?

If you were doing a calibration only flash the bootloaders would not have been updated so the flash should not have bricked the controller.

Actually I notice also that your sig has 98Z28, yet the OS reported is 9360361 which is the 99+ LS1 PCM?

Yeah, same person. That log is the same as posted in the other thread.

Interested in the result of the 98Z28 and 99+ PCM question. I definitely am not suspecting an EFILive hardware or software here, but of course am also not ruling it out absolutely.

December 28th, 2009, 06:23 PM
So this is a converted PCM?
A '99 .tun in a '98 PCM might cause some problems. :hihi:
I noticed a lot of extra wiring in the sig maybe a low battery or
noise in OBD port causing flash issues.

Tordne
December 28th, 2009, 06:27 PM
Would definately be interesting to see it flashed on a bench harness.

pdasterly
December 28th, 2009, 06:55 PM
yes my flashes are taking too long, then failing. My camaro is a 98 and is currently being updated to 2002 harness and pcm, but the firebird is a 99.

Tordne
December 28th, 2009, 07:03 PM
Just to remove any confusion this is the PCM in the 98 (updated) or 99?

pdasterly
December 28th, 2009, 07:26 PM
no, the firebird is all 99

Tordne
December 28th, 2009, 09:43 PM
Ok, so it is the 99 that has this issue.

I'd really want to see this PCM flashed out of the vehicle on a bench harness. Any chance of that happening (do you know anyone with a harness)?

Or perhaps send the PCM to Ira at Fish Tuning so he can test on the bench.

yes, i can read the pcm, battery is charged(optima red top)

So the PCM of the 1999 PCM can be read with FlashScan successfully? Can you please read the 1999 PCM now and email the .tun file to support@efilive.com? Please also advise how long it takes to perform the PCM read.

Really scratching head that you can read but not flash .

Please try and find someone with a bench harness that you8 can try reading and flashing on. We are not having any such issues with other customers, so that tends to place the porblem wither with the PCM itself, or the connection between it and the OBDII port in the vehicle.

Have you done a flash of that ECM on a bench harness yet? There is really little point posting continued failures until we can determine absolute that there is no issue with that ECM out of the vehicle. There are no outstanding/known issues flashing or reading LS1 PCM controllers so we do not believe there to be a fault with the EFILive software or FlashScan.

Tordne
January 4th, 2010, 10:01 AM
I get mine generally from here (http://www.eficonnection.com/eficonnection/offboard_harnesses.aspx). They are good quality and are very well priced vs others.

Also you could consider making your own by reading the 'Bench Harness Tutorial' avalable from the 'Help->Tutorials' menu of the Tune Tool. Often just getting one already made is easier as they already have all the necessary connectors available to them, and the build quality is likely to be better (speaking for myself here of course).

To make a harness, I think i need three thing(obd2 harness, pcm and the V2).
Do i connect the grounds together(V2 pin 4&8 and OBD2 pin 4&5 and pcm pin blue 60) and connect the 12v together(V2 pin 1 and obd2 pin 16 and pcm pin blue 20) and connect data(V2 pin 6 and obd2 pin 2 and pcm pin 58). apply power to pcm pin blue 19. I have a DC power supply? does this make any sense?

scheduled for complete dyno tune on wednesday at newtech (http://www.newtechperformance.com/index_1.html), they use hptuners

It will be interesting to see if they have the same issue
with long re-flashes on your PCM and pptuners.
If not you may have a problem with your Flashscan unit.

You could try un-hooking the other modules from the star connector and see if
that helps with the flashing/reading issue.

you want me to disconnect the pcm and leave only the blue connector

No.
I was suggesting that you try removing the EBCM, IPC, & SDM from the OBDII.
One of the other modules might be causing the slow flash/read.

The wires are connected with a comb like clip in the connector,
you can pull it out of the connector and re-insert it so only the PCM wire (drk grn)
is connected to the OBDII wire (ppl).

It's a pain to get to but it is an easy way to see if one of the other modules is causing the problem.
You might want to try it if the tuner does not have the slow flash/read problem.

You are having flash/read problems w/both vehicles, right?

turned out i have some sort of electrical issue, hp tuners couldnt reflash the pcm either. Newtech bench flashed the pcm and im running now. Kinda dissapointed in the number but anyway it is what it is. 470.24 RWHP 443.80 RWTQ

Pcm was bench flashed and was ok. Tuner say something on the wiring harness is causing my problem but they dont know where to start:(

I'll put it out there to start with that I am no electrician so shoot me down anyone :)

There aren't terribly many pins actually "required" for the flash process, so I would do the following:
1) Check with a multi-meter that there is a circuit between the PCM and OBDII connector on the expected pins.
2) Again with the multimeter check that the voltage measured is as per specification/expected. Perhaps also check resistance on the circuits.

in the video the number on the upper right hand corner, starts off 14 is the AFR ends up about 11.5 or so
