View Full Version : Faster Free Rev?

Did a little digging, couldn't find what i wanted, so here we go.

My buddys with their cammed LSx cars, when they stab the throttle to "free rev", their cars wind up so much quicker, and drop back down in RPM quicker as well.

My turbo 5.3 auto seems a lot slower to rev, and then it kinda hangs for a bit before the RPM comes back down. Could be due to the added rotating mass of the torque converter vs their 6 speed cars??

Is there anything in the tune I can tweak to increase how "crisply" my 5.3 revs?

Thanks,
Jeff

probably more due to the restriction of the turbo in the exhaust causing it to be a bit slower free reving.

When I went from a stock converter (50lbs) to an aftermarket 3500 converter (30lbs) I instantly noticed faster revs.

Got it figured out...was exactly as you said. I swapped my stock 4L80E converter out to a 9 3/4" Yank 3200, and it is MUCH more responsive.

I also noticed the same with a 4l80e when switching from stock converter to yank SC3000. Once that heavy stock converter gets to spinning, it takes a while to slow down :bad:
