Does anyone know what the 3/2 Down solenoid in a 4L80-e does or if it can be ignored and left out?

I got a transmission from a '95 and am getting ready to put it into a '92 that already has a 4L80-e in it. However the connectors are different. I've searched the diagrams and found, besides the wires being in different pins, that the only difference in the wiring is the 3/2 down shift solenoid.

However it is not on any of the fluid control schematics, or in the main wiring schematics. I can only find it if I look at the full vehicle wiring diagrams.

Anyone dealt with this or programmed around it for any use?

4L80E has no 3-2 shift solenoid, never did.

That wouldn't surprise me a bit, but why is it in the diagrams?

Probably a 4L60E diagram

The one diagram is a multi-coverage diagram. It covers the 4L60 and the 4L70 as well as the 4L80. I guess it won't be a problem.

The 4L60E 3-2 solenoid is not shift solenoid;

the 4L60E HMTG calls it 3-2 control solenoid;

it controls the 3rd accumulator fluid exit rate, so controlling the apply rate of the 2nd servo (which applies the band in 2nd gear);

the 4L80E does not have this solenoid.

this solenoid is specific to the 4L60E/4L65E/4L70E;

it appears that GM has eliminated it in some of the later 4L65E/4L70E models.
