So I got a new job working on cars. I am very thankful to God that it's a good and solid job and one where I have no excuses and it's way above my league and I can learn a lot. It's a position as an Audi technician at the best and biggest shop here and we also sell and service Ferrari, Porsche, Maserati, Jaguar and Aston Martin.

The bad news obviously is that it's not a GM dealer although it's the best job I could possibly dream of and I am very happy. I was wondering, what do you guys think about the technology of Audi and what can I possibly learn that will best help me with tuning and stuff that really matters :)

Just looking for some thoughts on how to approach this because I really have to dive into the world of Lambo engines and direct injection and tiny turbos and small diesels to fit in and make a living for my family and be successful at this privilege of an opportunity.

Please, only comment if you have something encouraging to say, it's pretty obvious that a nut and bolt is a nut and bolt and electricity and internal combustion engines all work on the same principles. I am nervous and unfamiliar to this new world but looking forward to excelling at it and using the experience I gain to be a better EFILIVE GM tuner

Here is a little video to inspire wise comparisons between the two worlds - and screw Clarkson!

Good deal

GM or not GM, they still function the same, same basics.

Remember to always consult the manual first.

Ahh, actually having a reasonable-priced VW/Audi tuning suite would make you a wealthy man as they're used to dropping $1500+ on a canned mail-order tune.

They do have the VAG-COM devices that can change the bits in some of their modules (add the DIC to the non-DIC module with proper speedo, etc) but they need a tuning suite.

I am a die hard GM man for life and will still be on this forum when I am old and grey (if it's God's will). That being said, for the next several years I will be engulfed in the world of Audi, and surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of exotic cars, with engines out on stands being worked on by my friends that I eat lunch with, and they will be flashing the latest Maserati, Aston, Jag, Porsche and the countless '10 Ferraris we have (like that new 458 or what not) with the latest updates with the factory scan tools. So if by any crazy chance there is some unexpected EFILive expansion, you can TOTALLY count on me for inside info. I am talking about we have like 2 Enzos a few weeks ago and a loud ass Carrera GT being worked on just a couple of bays from where I change oil. Not to mention the dozens of 911 Turbos and Ferraris in and out every day. This is crazy, I will fry my brain to learn all this high tech performance if I have to to be a great tech and I want it to help me with my tuning stuff.

As far as ScarabEpic's comment business wise yes it's a nice dream because we all know how well VW / Audi is doing and from the inside learning / training it looks like Audi has a very big future and these people have MONEY and NO aftermarket support at all... it would be funny

You must be referring to when someone wants the TV tuner to work in the front seats like overseas so they code they modules to work that way with the factory scan tool? Yeah they have some crazy computer stuff going on. One day when I am more comfy (maybe after my 90 days LOL) I will record the scan tool with my wifey's phone, you guys will freak out :)

Havent heard that one yet, more like swap GTI/GLI parts into stock Golf/Jettas or get uplevel features that are simply disabled in certain modules. I looked at getting one for my bro's 08 Jetta and my dad's 03 Audi A6 but 350 to do that just didnt make sense when I couldnt afford the actual mods!
