Hey guys I know this has been talked about before but i can't find my answer in the search, so feel free to steer me to a thread if you know of one.

i'm getting ready to switch a guys 99 silverado 4.8 over to a 2002 4.8 OS that I found on holdencrazy. I just want to verify the process. As far as I understand you:

1. Read original file and compare to the new 2002 file to verify that none of the charts are inverted
2. flash the 02 os
3. all done, good to go

is it just that simple? Is there anything else i need to do or be careful about?

Compare the vehicle platform differences and DTC's related. Check injector calibration tables too.

ok, thats simple enough. There are two tunes on holdencrazy one is an 01 file with OS#12208322 and the other is an 02 file with OS#12212156. Which one should I use? Does it make a difference? I've also read on other forms that people have fried their computer when doing this, but it was all hearsay and not actually verified. What do you guys think?

Use the 12212156 one, you wont fry your PCM as long as you take the time to compare your existing tune to the new one and copy all your values over to the new tune. Change the platform options and full flash it.

Which PCM do you have in the 99? If I remember right, up until 2000, some of them were still the black box controller.
Worst case, just pick up a 0411 and flash that instead.

i haven't seen the vehicle yet, he's dropping it off Saturday. 99 was the switchover year and I was under the impression that if it was the new body style with the new generation ls based motors that it used the ls1 pcm and not the black box pcm.

1999 ... 1500 series LS1-B PCM ..... 2500 & 3500 series black box Vortec PCM .... FYI

If it's a 4.8 L then it has an LS1-B PCM. 2500 & 3500 came with 5.0 L, 5.7 L, and 7.4 L.

Just as a clarification, not all 1999 2500 trucks were 5, 5.7 and 7.4L. My dad has a 99 K2500 with a 6L (LS1-B) and 4L80E. The only way he is able to distinguish it for the autoparts guys is to say it is a Silverado .... but it is still a 1999 truck.

yeah I work at an auto parts store part time right know because i'm in school, but in our system there's two options for trucks, either the c/k series (1500,2500,3500) which would only have engines of 4.3, 5.0, 5.7, 7.4. Then there are the silverado series (1500,2500,3500) which have engines of 4.3, 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, 6.6, 8.1.

boy do people get pi$$ed off when one of our employees gives them the wrong oil filter. usually its the old farmer who is swearing that his truck has a 350, when in actuality it has a 5.3 :) its the same type of customer who comes in and "wants a fuel pump for a 350" and when you try to ask them details about the vehicle you get the response "they're all the same"...yeah sure buddy...once I got a guy who wouldn't stop riding me so i went in the back and grabbed the most expensive fuel pump assembly for a 97ish vortech 350 and brought it up....Looks like he was looking for a mechanical pump for a 74ish truck:grin: and to make things better when i looked up the mechanical pump there were 3 options:grin::grin::grin: boy that shut him right up
