Does the PCM (LS1-B to be specific) know or keep track of the miles on an engine? I am looking at buying a truck engine that was already pulled out of the truck and want to verify just how many miles or on it. Is there a good PID that can be used? I noticed a few general mileage type PID's in the EFIScan, but I believe that those are more for the newer ECM's.

Believe odometer is controlled by the IPC ... think only GM can "reset" a replacement odometer. Don't think the PCM keeps track of odometer readings, other than for computing fuel mileage / range on some models.

I believe there is an hours PID, my 2004 Escalade has number of engine hours that I am able to pull up on my DIC

That's a great feature .. especially when deciding on purchasing a used vehicle. I think that data is stored in the IPC, not the PCM. Think the engine Darren described was previously removed and has only the PCM available to scan.
