What year/model/vehicle...?
What temps (coolant, transmission)...?

Software scantool:
On the Dashboard, goto Dash A, and do rightclick->Add and select a gauge, or do rightclick>Properties on an existing gauge and change its pid.

V2 BBL:
Run the V8 Scan&Tune software, select Black Box Settings, create a pid list for your PCM/ECM/TCM including temp.

joecar

You also have to install V8 software from >here< (http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?14774-November-22nd-2010-pre-release)

[ also, you should probably update your V7 software ]

V8 software gives you two software tools: EFILive Explorer and Scan&Tune.

I contacted Tech Support about Error $0003.

Which V8 software build version have you got installed...?

Tordne

I have never actually seen a $0003 error occur. Are the drivers installed and the device shown OK in Device Manager? If you go into the Tune Tool with FlashScan connected do you get valid license data when going to the 'Help->FlashScan V2 / AutoCal V2 VIN Licensing' menu option?

What I'm really wanting to know is if your software can see and communicate with the FlashScan V2 device. If you go to the 'Help->FlashScan V2 / AutoCal V2 VIN Licensing' menu option in the Tune Tool with FlashScan connected it "should" retrieve the serial number and VIN license details, proving that it is all good (or not).

Just going 07:30 here :).

Confirm software and firmware versions for me?

If using the stable software from the website you should be:
- 7.5.6 Build 133
- 8.1.2 Build 115
- 2.06.41 FlashScan V2 firmware

If using the latest pre-release (http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?14774-November-22nd-2010-pre-release) you should be:
- 7.5.6 Build 138
- 8.1.2 Build 126
- 2.07.03 (Nov 22, 2010) FlashScan V2 firmware

If you aren't on either of these versions we'll need you to upgrade, see these notes:
- Software updates (http://support.efilive.com/kb_article.php?ref=5404-IJZV-0820)
- Firmware updates (http://support.efilive.com/kb_article.php?ref=7243-SFGL-2949)

Don't use EFILive_Firmware.exe ("EFILive FlashScan V2 Programmer")...

Use EFILive_Explorer.exe... goto the Firmware tab and program the bootblock and then the firmware... but before you do this, what are the current bootblock/firmware versions in your V2... (the Firmware tab in EE will show these if your V2 is connected to your PC)...?

EE is installed when V8 software is installed (you should see links/icons for EE and S&T on your desktop).

ok this is what ive found I went in the ee and went to f12 tab(firmware) and it showed nothing then i hit the refresh button and it came up to this
bb version is 2.06.02 oct 16 2008 and the firmware version is 2.06.06 dec 14 2008 now do i need to update them? how

Tordne
November 25th, 2010, 12:37 PM
Firmware nearly 2 years old, I think so! It is almost certain that this is going to be issue. The software and firmware have a codependency so it is essential that you update your V7, V8 and V2 firmware regularly.

crash85
November 25th, 2010, 12:38 PM
how do i go about doing this ?

Tordne
November 25th, 2010, 12:39 PM
Interesting to see the date on that old firmware actually (can't believe 2.06.x was out 2 years ago; time files when you're having fun obviously). There are some customers out there that are probably even older than that.

Based on never seeing an $0003 error before I'm holding out that this is all just going to work for you now...

by the wayy where could i buy a new controler my screen is blank on the bottom of it and cant read any thing from f3 and down ( flash scan)

Tordne
November 25th, 2010, 12:54 PM
Because you're coming from such old firmware do the following:
- Connect FlashScan V2 to your machine
- Open the EFILive Explorer application
- Go to the 'F3: Data Files' tab and click the 'Format Data' button; make sure there is nothing on there you want/need beforehand obviously.
- Go to the 'F9: Config Files' tab and click the 'Format Config' button
- Close EFILive Explorer

- Open the V8 Scan and Tune application
- Configure the device options and Save/Program them to your device
- Configure the BBX options and Save/Program them to your device

With regards to the screen being blank... Is is a few rows of pixels that are out or something? We don't sell FlashScan V2 interfaces by themselves really. The couple of options are to send it into us for repair. If it is outside of warranty (which I assume it is given the firmware age) there may be a cost for repair. Or, we offer a service to close a FlashScan device. This costs US$499 and provides you with a brand new interface with a new 12 month warranty.

Let me know if you'd like to send for repair and I'll provide the details to you via email.

Cheers,

It will have been due to the changes in filesystem structure at some point way back. Formatting was going to be the most likely fix. If that hadn't worked it was more likely to be a flash memory fault, which would have been bad :)
