Nick, it will have to wait a week, I am over in NZ for the moment, I have all the Cummins pin-out data (pictures) back in Australia.
Meanwhile, if anyone knows of a source for the connectors on these that would be great to know.
For bench flashing the 5.9L ECM needs C1 & C2, for the 6.7L it only needs C2.

Thanks Ross, I'll dig on the C1 and C2 connector.

Those look like Deutsch pin connectors (www.laddinc.com). The 2006 one is very similar (looks like a DRC Series). Harder to tell looking at the picture of the 2009. If they are Deutsch, one source would be your local Caterpillar dealer. There are others on the web too.

Thanks Turbo_bu, I ordered a few sets and pins. I'll keep things updated.

Here's what I found for the 2006 ECM:
C1
4 - CAN+
5 - CAN-
C2
21 - Ground
30 - Battery +12
32 - Start/Run +12
40 - Battery +12
49 - Ground
50 - Ground
According to the data I got from OnDemand, it appears that that pinout is the same for the 2009 ECM as well.
Personally, I think that anyone that designs an ECM that requires more than one connector to be bench flashed should be beaten....

Agreed, GM are guilty of this too on some of the gas ECM's.

Anyone know where we can get the connectors and pins besides the dealer? They quoted me $149 for C1 and $169 for C2 for the 5.9L and they say they don't make any connectors for the 6.7l. Although it could be the dealer I went to.

Does anyone know if the 2006+ can bus ECM will work as a stand a lone in my race truck. Right now I have a 03-04 ecm working but want to go with EFI. I have everything to convert it to 2006 hardware.
Thanks
ps I have access to wiring info if i can help.

I was doing some research and it looks like on the 6.7 the Can+ is pin #1 and Can- is pin#21 on the C2 connector.

I have about 82 pins with pigtails from an original connector. email me if you need some Blemoine02@aol.com

I've got the C1 and C2 connectors and pins from a buddy that works at a Dodge dealer. The big C1 connector for the 5.9l is the same as the C2 connector for the 6.7l.

the pinouts for C1 & C2 are listed in the service manual pages 8w-80-79 thru 8w-80-81

No good. With the ECU connected and ignition ON, I read less than 1 volt at the diagnostic connector. The power supply being used is an AC to DC wall adapter (1.5 amp)...which has been sufficient for all gasonline ECUs.
C1
4 - CAN+
5 - CAN-
C2
21 - Ground
30 - Battery +12
32 - Start/Run +12
40 - Battery +12
49 - Ground
50 - Ground
Shown in above image.
The big C2 connector for the 5.9l is the same as the C2 connector for the 6.7l.
When I match up the common connector between the 2006 and 2009, for the 2006 ECU, C2 is on the left and C1 is on the right.

No problem, but something is wrong in that pic. Either C1 and C2 are mixed or the programming pinouts are wrong.

You got C1 & C2 the wrong way around.
C1 is the bigger 60 pin connector, C2 is the 50 pin connector. Hope you didn't kill it! When you get it running, please send us a read of the ECM too
When you have some of the Cummins and the Bosch ECM connectors ready for sale we'll take a bunch, I'm sick of pushing open pins on to these weirdo ECM's.

After understanding which was C1 and C2, all is well. I built a new programming harness because I cannot figure out how to release the terminals from the connectors. Deutsch should take notes from Delphi and Molex on how to make connectors. :)

Just a few comments...
Auto Detect failed. I had to manually select the controller.
The read process took more than 10 minutes.

Mike, I just got your file, but it's no good.
It appears you are running old V8 software and outdated firmware, it looks like you using a release from Nov 2010.
If you update your software and firmware at the same time to the versions listed in THIS (http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?15552-January-31st-2011-pre-release-%28Updated-Feb-03-2011%29) thread, try re-reading the ECM then, it should auto detect and the read time will drop too.
Cheers,
Ross

I cannot figure out how to release the terminals from the connectors.
To release the pins you need one of these:

You can find them here:
http://www.deutschconnector.com/products/deutsch_connector_removal_tools.html
They are somewhat fragile so you may want to order a couple extra.

Can you guys give confirmation that these are deutsch drc connectors? Part numbers? Currently stick using my phone to search the inter-web and it's slow going! Lol
Thanks in advance

Could someone please tell me the arrangement of pins on the 06 ecm I have pictured like the 03 ecm I have written the arrangement on. I know the arrangement is different than my 03 ecm pictured. From the picture on the service manual I cant tell if the picture is of the harness and looking at from which side or the face of the ecm. I'm re pinning my original 03 harness to run 06 as a standalone. http://tapatalk.com/mu/aefcdc3b-a18e-4520.jpg

Got my v2 scan and tune today. Truck isn't ready to try the 06 ecm but I wanna bench flash it and read the os to send to u and start building a file.. I don wanna go off the pictures because he has c1 and c2 backwards. So, what needs to be hooked up to to this? What pins need power and what ones grounded? What pins go where on the obd2 cable? Any help apreciated..

I have a 2006 ECM in my race truck and efi will not talk to it. It can see the ECM but it gets a error when trying to read it. Any ideas on bench flashing would be great.
I will post what pins I hooked to for the data and power wires.
Thanks

What is the exact error? Because if you can talk to the ECM there should be no reason it can't be read out.

Script exited with code $0311: mode not supported ($11) this is the code i get on my race truck and a customer truck, both of these trucks previously tuned with a smarty and returned to stock file with the tuner. I can read a stock truck that has never been tuned with a smarty.

I believe the CAN wires are the only wires you need. I will hopefully know this afternoon when I get my 6.7 ECU.
You should need:
Cavity Function
4 Ground
5 Ground
6 Can +
14 Can -
16 Fused Battery +
Haven't confirmed this yes, but that is all my 6.7 OBDII port has. I don't believe you need anything with the SCI as the 6.7 is completely CAN.

I bench flashed my ECM by just hooking up the 2 CAN wires from the ECU to the OBDII port. You will also need battery +12v and the grounds hooked up.
Hope this helps.
