Hey guys,

Can someone explain to me what a script is and what it can be used for?

A script is essentially a programmatic way of performing actions in a calibration that you would do yourself. Tuners would use them for performing repetitive tasks basically. Some examples might be disabling the Cat Protection, setting Speed Density mode re-enabling the MAF, adjusting fuel tank parameters. Almost anything really...

So are there any uses for script files for a guy who only tunes his own pcm?

Um, speaking only for myself and having tuned my own cars I've never really used scripts. I played with them obviously when we released the functionality to ensure familiarity. But working on your own tune you usually make the main changes once only, so the script would sort of be redundant immediately.

But others out there may use them extensively on their own vehicle tunes?

They're user created, as in you create your own scripts. Make some changes to your stock file, save it as a different name. Then reopen the stock file, click File->Load alternate calibration for comparison, then click Edit->Create Script. Save the script with a name, say test1script. Then go back to the stock file, click Edit->Run Script and select test1script. Click Run, watch the program make the changes in the windows, then click Close and see in the tune file that those changes have been made.

I always forget if you have to have the stock file opened with the modified one as the alternate or vice-versa!

Erik, I will play with a sample and see the process.

One more question, can it make changes between different operating systems?

Yes it can!! Thats whats great, it just changes the appropriate tables (for example B4001) in whatever OS you run the script on.

I only use it to make a few changes, but its definitely a great feature to have.

The file you want to be changed (in your example it would be the stock file) has to be the primary, and the file you want the program to read the differances from to create the script (the file you made changes to) has to be the alternate.

For those who wanted to know. :)

I was wondering if you could create a script for say only the transmission shift points?
the shift points we need are on a 5.3 file, and we are using a 6.0 file. So we dont want to change everything to the 5.3, only the shift points. Possible?

Definitely possible, create a script based off the 5.3 file compared to a stock tune. Then open the script file in Notepad, Notepad++, Crimson Editor, etc and just remove the entries that dont relate to the trans segment. Takes all of 5 minutes to do, just see what the first trans table you want to copy over is and delete all of them above that. I have a few scripts for the engine and others for the transmission, that way I can mix n match quickly on the P10 so I only need to fine tune everything.
