View Full Version : 04 Silverado turbo 6.0 help.

Ok this is probably not the best idea of a vehicle to learn to tune on but its what Ive got. 76mm stock 6.0/4l80e combo with, 60lb injectors, 3200 stall, plx analog wideband small..ish cam trying to make it work on e85 with open loop speed density. Ive been reading for a couple of weeks now. Managed to get it to pass inspection, now it comes down to making it run right. It has a baseline tune on it but its far from good and not properly configured for e85. I need a starting point.

Nobody? I got it running pretty good I'm having an issue with it pushing, off throttle coasting to a stop idles high, once the truck stops completely it idles great.

Not sure if it helps at all, but here is a current tune I am working with with my truck. It's not yet perfect on my truck, so by no means will it be on yours, let alone with e-85.

How much boost are you running? Your VE table and boost ve table should match in the 105kpa. Are you using the boost VE? I just looked at tune really quickly, Ill try to look at it later again.

I did figure out that my 105kpa tables did need to match. One thing I don't understand is the tutorials say log data until the cells reach 1 +-.1 when I log every cell never gets any better than 1.21. What does that mean?Also I follow the tutorials on auto ve and when it comes time to paisting my data I follow the tutorial and almost everytime it comes out wayyyy to rich. I'll post my current tune and a log file this evening.

Have you gone through the idle tuning tutorial? That may help your issue out.

Can you link me I've found several scattered threads on idle tuning. I'm not sure it's an idle issue because it does idle great it's just off throttle coasting where I have an issue.

Im running a 12lb spring I see 10-12 lbs. Boost comes is really fast since im running some stupid .68 ar on the exhaust side. I need to change it to a .98 housing but im tired of spending money atm. Thanks 64camino ive seen that link glanced over it couple times. Ill sit down and really read it now. This is what I had as of yesterday.

No prob. I would really watch your egt's and back pressure with that small ar. easy for them to get out of control real fast on a 6.0 and start burning valves, or the exhaust wheel itself. I have a .96, and still think it's too small. When it's hot, it spools so fast it's hard to drive on the street, like an on/off switch. I wouldn't take the injector tables in my tune for gospel either. Just the best i've come up with so far. I think ive tried 5-6 different methods at getting them to behave correctly :)

Yea I'm missing some major power cuz when mine spools it's not impressive. What injectors are you running and what type of fuel system? I've got 60ld's, twin intanks, and return style.

Injectors are regular old siemens/mototron 60s. Single intank walbro255. At 17-18lbs(the most i've pushed it) it still had 11.5 afr(after leaning it down from 11.0). I would love to try e-85, but none around here, and I know I would need more pump. I already looked into the new aeromotive 340 in tank.

I probably should have gotten the tune ironed out on pump gas first but I was to eager to try e85 since the station down the street has it on tap. I'm sure its my tune but my gas mileage is horrible, but it smells good.

ok so check my math Im pretty sure I have it correct. 60*sqrt((60)/43.5) =70.4664lb/hr=8.8786g/s I have a map referenced regulator on the rail with vac hose attached it measures 58, with it removed it measures 60

So, your injectors are rated to flow 60lb/hr @ 43.5 psi, and your FPR-exposed-to-BARO rail pressure is measured to be 60 psi...
your IFR calculation looks correct and my calculator gives the same numbers;
for MAP-referenced FPR, the calculated IFR value is used in all cells of the IFR table (flat static).

Ok my next question pertains to e85 part of it. In table B3601 do I plug in 9.765 or equivalent afr as per plx website, which I think is 14.57?
"All PLX wideband air/fuel ratio devices are compatible with E85 fuel. E85 consists of a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% petroleum and it is becoming a popular alternative fuel worldwide. Perfect combustion is defined as 1.0 lambda or 9.855 air/fuel ratio for E85. Here are some equations to help you calculate your air/fuel ratio.
Air/Fuel Ratio (E85) = 9.855 x lambda
Air/Fuel Ratio (E85) = 0.67 x Air/Fuel Ratio (Gasoline) "
Fuel ........................ AFRst ........ FARst ....... Equivalence Ratio ... Lambda
E85 stoich .................. 9.765 ....... 0.10235 ............ 1 ................... 1

Set B3601 to 9.765, or 9.77, or 9.8.
Then from your PLX use Lambda to correct the commanded fuel...
e.g. in your calc_pids.txt file define BEN to be "{GM.EQIVRATIO}*{EXT.WO2LAM1}"
See CALC.WO2BEN in attached file.
Do you FlashScan V1 or V2...?

Im using v2. Ok so I believe my cal_pids file is already correct? "Then from your PLX use Lambda to correct the commanded fuel..." Elaborate on this please. Im using analog signal from plx btw.

I think you are correct there websites says afr is calculated off of 14.7

I think you are correct there websites says afr is calculated off of 14.7So your PLX scales Lambda by internally multiplying it by 14.7, and this is what it reports via the analog connection which EFILive Scantool interprets as AFR.
So in your calc pids, you obtain Lambda by dividing the wideband AFR by 14.7 as in post #23.
So your CLC-00-110 should read:
*CLC-00-110
factor 0.5 1.5 .4 "{GM.EQIVRATIO} * {CALC.AFR_PLX1}/14.7"
Lambda is regardless of fuel used (this is why we try to avoid AFR).

Well the plx is cabable of outputing a lambda value instead of afr I just need to hook up one more wire.

Let me have a read of that...
The good thing to do is to use serial comms to connect the PLX to V2... but I am not familiar with the PLX.

Is there a way to connect using serial comms (see pic)...?
You may have to swap/cross Tx and Rx.

I will also need to change my calc_pids.txt back to {GM.EQIVRATIO}*{EXT.WO2LAM1} correct? In a previous post you said once I change my stotch to 9.8 I need to correct my commanded fuel. Can you elaborate or link me to more detail? As of right now Im WAY rich.

You have to see if you need the null-modem/cross-over...
If your PLX connects to a PC/laptop using a straight serial cable, then you need the null-modem/cross-over.
If your PLX connects to a PC/laptop using a null modem serial cable, then you do not need the null-modem/cross-over.

Yes that is the same model I have. So it looks as tho I WILL need the null_modem/cross-over. Why couldn't i just eliminate the in between and just connect lc-1 jack to the rj12 connection with the proper pin out? Build my own cable. I have all the parts already......Just made up a cable cross fingers it works.
