View Full Version : Cruise Control Effect

Getting closer to a good tune but I'm stumped for now. I took a 2001 LS6 tune and loaded it into my car. The hunting for idle in open loop seems to be under control but I have the Cruise Control effect now as I drive. THe RPMs stay at 2K until the car is almost to a halt, then the RPMs idle down properly.

So, any suggestions?

I was going to tag the .tun file on here but it's not a valid file for downloading as an attachment. Fudge... Hm.....

Sounds like you have to much air via B4307 Dsired Airflow table

Sure doesn't seem like too much to me? Should it go lower than that?

Is your TB drilled, bigger than stock or ported?

Stock TB, not drilled, no porting. My "Complete SIG" shows my modifications. The only intake "mod" is the Weiand polished intake manifold.

Check {B4312}, is that the speed when your idle returns to normal?
If so then maybe your throttle cracker table is too high.
Just to test if it is the throttle cracker, halve the entire table - did it reduce your idle speed while the vehicle is moving?
If so, keep adjusting that table until it is correct.

It seems pretty low now.

Move your IAC effective area down on the table until it stops. I had to go down 9 places on mine despite everyone else only having to go 6.

OK, "down". IACnow is current. Which way "down". Like IACnew or IACnew2

I believe is he refering to IACnew.

ok, first 6 values were "0", now the first 9 values are "0". I slid the table down three places.

First 13 values are 0 and no help. THis is not solving the problem. I tried it the other way and made the first value appear in slot 12 and that didn't do jack either. THe engine RPM simply holds at 2000 or so and won't reduce down to normal until I'm almost stopped.

Did you try reducing throttle cracker yet? Reduce it by half like Blacky suggested - if you notice a change for the better, keep going. Also check the throttle follower tables...

Uplug your IAC and see if it still hangs.

I believe it is brand new....

I didn't mean anything was wrong with it. There might be a vacuum leak or something else besides air tables causing it to hang.

Gotcha. I think its in his cracker tables.

Mine did the same thing. I would press in the clutch and the rev's would stay at 1400 to 2000 until I stopped and it came back to normal. Turned out to be a vacuum leak. The dead giveaway was the fuel trims. At idle they were like 25%.

Fuel trims are perfect and so is the lack of the cruise control effect. I took 50% off and dropped it another 10% and it's really getting close. I'll reduce it another 10 % and see it it gets all of the problem gone. Right now it's pretty close to "normal" and the cruise control effect is pretty much gone. The culprit? {B4309} Throttle Cracker Airflow in Gear.

THe solution to the crazy idle hunting surge was to manually load in the tune for the LS6 2001 vette into the engine.

My last "issue" is 0300 codes. My tuners had flat turned off the miss watching and I put it back to stock. I've been decreasing the sensitivity to the "miss" by 10% each time the light comes on. I monitored the car for misses and there simply wasn't anything ugly going on so I'm tuning "up" on the miss tables to lessen the sensitivity to a non-existent miss being found by the PCM.

Thanks for the help people, I'm starting to enjoy the car again now that it is running in a more civiized manner.
