Removing yellow MAF wire required?

Hey guys simple question.. I'm going to be tuning a buddys gmt900 truck and in preparation i was reading the e38 tuning guide. In it it says to remove the yellow wire from the maf. I'm used to the older trucks running on the ls1 pcm, so is it necessary to remove the wire or is just setting c0301, c0303, and c0305 to "1" good enough.

If you can get a MAF DTC to show up, you don't need to remove the wire.
