View Full Version : 96 LTX with an LSX pcm. What???

Alright so I'm installing a TC-78 383 into my 96 camaro and I'm going with an EFI connection 24X ECM. I'm using D585 coils and a 01-02 (GM# 12200411) pcm. I'm wondering what I need to do to get this car fired up. I know the firing order is different and EFI connection is building me a harness that swaps the injectors/coils to compensate for this, but do I need to load a van tune into the pcm or will the stock LS1 tune work because the injectors/coils are already swapped? I have EFI live to load a base tune and I'm having my dyno tuner do all the tuning, but I need to have it at least run before I show up to the dyno.

I just loaded a 2002 Camaro cal into my swap, and it fired right up. It ran EXTREMELY rich, but fired right up!!! You just have to shut off security and change the bank assignments and it should fire right up. The bank assignment is mainly for misfire calcualtion, so you actually really do not even have to do that!!! You can't use a Vortec van cal cuz the van has a distributor and I am assuming you are using the COP setup??? Go to holdencrazy and get the cal and dump it in the ECM!!!

What if I loaded a modified tune that is somewhat similar to my setup. Like this one.
408 CI, ETP 225 Heads, 238/238 116 LSA Cam, LS6 Intake, 96# Injectors, 38 PSI Fuel Pressure, S488 Turbo, 4l80E With Fuddle 2400 Stall, 3.08 Gears, 93 Octane

My setup is.
383 CI, Brodix 235 heads, 224/224 114 LSA cam, Holley single plane, 80# INJ, 45ish PSI fuel, TC-78 turbo, 4l60E with Vigilante 2800 stall, 4.11 hears, 91 octane

They aren't too far off. I figure I can make a few changes here and there, but that should be closer than a stock 02 camaro tune.

It's worth a shot, you are going to have to do some tuning no matter what cal you use....

Without proper injector to bank assignments, when closed loop is commanded, the trims will go wacky.

Thanks for reminding me of that, I forgot that one. I haven't actually used closed loop yet, but am going to enable it soon to get some MPG's up. 11 MPG @ $3.89 a gallon is no bueno!!!

The tune you would be needing is quite different from the one you are looking at. Starting with the Stock 2002 Camaro automatic file would be best (You don't have a 4L80-E). First upgrade to a COS3 or COS5. Next put in very accurate injector data to have a good base file. Install a 2 or 3 Bar MAP sensor, depending on expected boost. You might want to plan on swapping to the 4L80-E trans in the near future too. No sense sinking good money in a trans that just isn't going to handle that power over the long haul.
