I'm getting this error code on my wifes PONTIAC G6 with a 3.5L on both the ECM and TCM. I'm pretty sure it's an E67 and T42, but neither one will unlock to let me read the tune. I've tried the auto detect and nothing comes up with that. I just installed the latest upadtes for all of the software. This is with both V7 and V8. I can connect to them with the scan portion and read diagnostic data, but not the actual programming.

I went and doule checked and it looks like it may be an E40 ECM as the black connector is much longer than the grey one. It still won't read out as an E40 either. The TIS site is giving me 2 different cal options for it when I look it up.

Connect to the vehicle and use the V8 Tune sections Auto Detect option to see if it can establish what the ECM type is (it could also be an E38). The $0537 indicates that the controller is locked with a custom key so there is also a chance that the ECM might be locked. This error can occur however when the wrong controller is selected ;)

Im pretty sure those are E38s, the supported vehicles page has . Its deceiving, the 3.5L lists the E38 and E67, since the E67 didnt work try E38. Check the ECM connector, 2=E38 3=E67.

So Auto Detect in V8 didnt work?

I tried the auto detect and got nothing from it, and I also tried it manually as an E38, E67, and E40. The OS in it now doesn't match up to anything on the E37, E38, or E67 list. I have no trouble connecting to it via the scan tool as an E67, but it will not read the tune out no matter what ECM I select. I used teh V2 by itself and did teh VIN/OS check and teh current OS is 12603217. It looks like according to TIS this is teh first cal for it, and the latest flash for it is 12613176 which is also not on the supported list. The VIN is 1G2ZG558464129184 if this helps anybodyt to determine what it is.

The ECM should be an E67. Service # 12600928 was used with 2.4, 3.5, 3.6, and 3.9 L engines - of various models. Service # 12603530 was used with 2.4, 3.5, 3.9, and 4.6 L engines - of various models.

In 2006 the G6 could be equipped with a 2.4, 3.5, or 3.9 L engine - the 3.6 L was not an option.

In 2007 the G6 could be equipped with a 2.4, 3.5, 3.6, or 3.9 L engine.

The EFILive supported vehicles list shows support for 2006 G6 with a 3.6 L or 3.9 L (not DI).

It may be the case that your 2006 Pontiac G6 with a 3.5 L engine is not actually supported - as the supported vehicles list appears to indicate support for the 3.5 L engine began in the 2007 model year.

That's what it looks like. I was hoping to go in and correct the DIC in it since it is off by about 10%, but it looks like there is a factory flash for it so I guess I'll just get GM to flash it. It's odd though that they do show support for the TCM, and I can't read it either. I did find a post from last year regarding an 05 G6 and that it used an odd emthod of flashing the ECM, so maybe that is the issue with the 06 as well(said it uses CAN to read and verify which OS, but uses VPW to do that actual flashing and reading).

Checking the VIN in TIS shows operating system numbers that we don't support. I don't know what sort of ECM it actually is but it is not one that we cover (which is also supported by V8 not detecting it). In the Scan Tool selecting E67 is really just going to make the Scan Tool go into CAN mode. There will be a number of generic PIDs (SAE) that will likely return data, and perhaps even some GM specific PIDs. You may find some that don't work or reports "strange" values.

Not to be off topic or hijack the thread--Is there an upgrade or replacement for this ECM that would lend itself to easier tuning?

Sorry, not sure what you mean? There is no alternate ECM from the E67 used in this vehicle :/
