JAW Wideband serial connection

How do you get a JAW wideband working with the V2?

I have the RJ12 wired directly to a female DB9 connector, it's pinned just like my serial cable I use to connect JAW to my PC...


RJ12 -> DB9
1 -> 2
2 -> 3
5 -> 5

I think I have the options on the v2 set properly, but all I get is "NO WB02 detected"

any ideas?

Unless there is more than one type of RJ12 connector, I'm pretty sure I'm using the right one.

So what have you been doing, just using the line voltage IO's?

Maybe I just need to switch my wires on the 2 and 3 pin DB9...

I have Tx from the wideband going to Tx on the V2 RS232 interface. Most wiring discussions seem to have it directly linked this way, but it would make a lot more sense to me if Wideband Tx went to V2 RS232 Rx???

What have I got to lose at this point? :D

The wideband and the V2 are DCE devices...

this means the transmit pin is Rx and the receive pin is Tx (this is the difference between DTE and DCE).

You're correct, Tx should go to Rx, but since both devices are DCE, then Rx should go to Tx.

Yes, try swapping DB9 pins 2 and 3 and see what happens.

Well, that's definitely my problem then.

Just as a sanity check...

Attached diagram of the JAW shows:

#2: TX
#3: RX
#5: GRND

So I need to do it like this, Right??

RJ12 -> DB9
1(Tx) -> 3(Rx)
2(Rx) -> 2(Tx)
5(GND) -> 5(GND)

Has been a while since I have done the JAW to V2 but you are correct .
I did data traces , got info from Alan over at 14point7 and sent them in , we had it working at one time on the V2 .

Eureka! It works, and beautifully I might add. Wow... It has now come full-circle... COS#3 and a working serial wideband for the 68, and scarry things lurking in my daily driver. Now to try the autoVE.

Amazing stuff, such a quality and feature-packed product.
