View Full Version : Pacer - base tune help

I am going to tune a 76 Pacer soon that has the following engine transplanted.
6.0L block w/ forged pistons 9.8:1 CR
cam 226/234 .598”/.602” 113 LSA
L92 heads w/ LS3 intake and injectors
MAP and MAF and O2s
92mm cable throttle body
headers, 2600 stall converter
24x with 411 ECM
Tranny is a 4L80E
My question is mainly on how to get a base tune together. Thought I`d start
with an 12212156 OS LQ4 w/4L80E and add the LS3 injector flow information.
What else do I need to do to get it to at least run for a while...

Sounds like a good base tune, for an engine transplant the 12212156 OS/4L80E combo should be solid. Get the proper IFR and injector settings into the 0411 PCM then throw a WBO2 on it, get the VE dialed in. Then try to get a little dyno time to get the last WOT fueling and spark dialed in.

Look into WeatherManShawn's Calc.VET method of getting the VE dialed in, the previous version (no WOT fueling, just part throttle) worked really well for my tuning an 02 5.3L Suburban.

That sounds like a good plan...

estimate the VE, then try the CALC.VET tutorial, with a dyno see if you can hit PT cells (rather than just WOT sweep).

The second version of the CALC.VET tutorial used both NBO2 (PT) and wideband (WOT/PE), look at the pid CALC.SELBEN, it uses the pid CALC.PE to select either the wideband BEN or the NBO2 LTFTBEN.

You can edit CALC.PE to better suit your PE conditions.

Shorten the shift times to 0.20s, raise shift pressures by 20%, set throttle kickdown tables to all 100%.

Thanks joecar for posting the spreadsheet, I figured that I would have to fill the tables that way but would have needed some time to research that.
Spent a few hours to create the tune, anyone care to look at it?
I have not corrected the cam besides raising the idle some.
Now I just need to wait for the harness to arrive ;-)

Here is the base tune, for the VE I added 5% across, not sure if that will get me close...
Most of the other tables I copied from an 03 LS1 or 10 LS3 (timing).

Sounds like a complicated build/tune so my only comment is that since you are MAF-Enabled and closed-loop, adding +5% to the VE Table is really not going to do anything.

You will have to concentrate on the MAF for most of your airflow calculation. But, you can't really do anything until you start logging:http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?15236-A-New-Twist-on-CALC.-VE-Table..Computing-the-Entire-VE-Table.
