View Full Version : As good as it gets (cam surge gone)

Took some quick video last night...think I finally got this thing dialed in to where I want it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CH6r1T36Whc

Specifics:
Open loop MAF only tune
Z06 MAF with stock MAF curve from Z06 tune
SVO 30lb injectors
Linear injector flow rate (values are ~31.5@0 kPa to ~40@80 kPa)

With the cam, it idles right around 17:1 on the WBO2 (appears lean due to overlap in cam), drives right around 14.2:1 (WB in passenger side - typically runs a little richer), and I can finally say I'm happy!

It is difficult to judge from a video, but it certainly looks like you've got the low-load low-rpm high gear driveability well sorted there - especially considering it is a large cam for an LS1. Congratulations.

Nice work Jeff.
Do you have a log of the run you can post?

Nice..

And only 32K on that engine!:).

Thanks guys!

You deserve some credit here too! That transitional min. pulse width table is key for having a decent tune that doesn't go pig rich on decel... :)

No log taken (and saved) yet - I'll post one up if I get time this weekend... :)

SSpdDmon - Looks great! Just wondering - what influenced your decision to go MAF only? Were you unable to get the drivability (no surging) you wanted with a 'conventional' MAF+VE or MAFless tune? What do you see as the advantage of MAF-only?

It's a hell of a lot easier to tune. I had the AFR dialed in in a matter of minutes just by using a stock MAF curve, the right injector voltage settings and finding the best line for the IFR. Doing that gets things pretty darn close in a hurry. I still may have to tweak the small pulse adjust a touch. But for the most part, I've got the AFRs I'm looking for without having to touch the VE.

I took a log of my drive to the highway Monday night. I'll post that and the current tune up later tonight if I remember. I also tested out 1st gear in the parking garage at MSU. The car made it up to the top level (6 floors) without hardly any surge while in 1st gear between 1400 and 2100 RPM. :)

Files as promised... This was a 15 minute drive or so to get me to the highway. There are a couple of times where I was able to keep the RPMs under 2k for a bit. Not a whole bunch of bucking or surging going on at all. :)

If you create a map that imitates the IFR table and filter out idle conditions (less than 1.19% throttle or less than 2mph), you can see the AFR averages are pretty damn good.

Follow up video shot yesterday because some were asking about the lower gears. So, here's 1st gear while stuck in traffic. Apparently, someone wrecked a semi 4 miles ahead. Normally, I'd say traffic like this would suck balls in a car with a big cam and monster stg 5 clutch. But honestly, it wasn't that bad. :)
