View Full Version : Throttle stops working when accelerating..

Hi,
For some reason when you try to accelerate quickly the throttle just goes back to idle mode and the pedal no longer does anything, to fix it i have to turn the car off and wait a minute. start it again and the pedal now controls the throttle again. It also does it before you start the engine, if i randomly keep pushing the pedal to the floor the throttle will randomly stop working again. Im running a stock 2008 ve l98 manual ute tune. When I was running a ls3 corvette tune it only did it twice. The only code that I can see that might have something to do with it is. P0606? Is it going into some kind of failsafe mode?
Thanks

So I connected the scanner to the ecm and ran pids ETCPP1 and ETCTP1 with the ignition on and the engine off, if I slowly push the pedal once they both get to 50 the ETCTP1 drops down to 10% and the throttle no longer responds to pedal movement, but if i push the pedal really fast the throttle works fine. If I push it really fast to 100% and slowing back off ETCP1 drops back down to 10%, I have tried two different throttle bodies. also got code 1516 before.

caused by wrong base tune in the ECU
either running a US Base tune and then have flashed a Holden tune in (no go)
or
have a Brass throttle blade and are running a early type ECU/OS

Well it is a 2008 ecm, both throttles are the alloy coloured blades, when I actually first connected to the ecu it had no tune on it, is there a way to reflash the ecu back to normal?

:) thats your problem.. your cant go flashing into a "blank" ecu a tune via EFILive or HPtuners etc... you need to have your ECU flashed via TECH2 with a base tune . This makes sure all the tables in the ECU are compatible with everything you are using (mainly the throttle tables / throttle body / pedal)

So off to Holden with the ecu I'm assuming? :) unless somebody else in Au has a tech2?

Just curious, as I have a similar problem.
Would a new throttle body fix this? eg FAST or another manufacturer?
Has this been resolved?
Thanks!!!

Will be flashing it today and sending back.
It is a very common problem that people face when they get either a E38 new or a second hand one from a totally different fit vehicle and flash straight over the top with tuning software a tune they want.
EFILive and the like dont flash the throttle tables that correspond with the Throttle Body and pedal like a TECH 2 / TIS do. So if you end up mix and matching pedals/Throttle Body and tune then you end up pwith random drop outs of throttle.
