Auto or Manual?
Either way, swapping around E38's is a pain, make sure you get one from the right year, get the Service Number off the ECM and make sure it's a match.

I can't just upload to any E38!? :angel_innocent:
E38 serv# 12612384

I tracked down the previous owner and have come to terms with the said locking device.
Stay tuned. :lookaround:

I'm not sure if the E38 compatibility (http://download.efilive.com/Documentation/OS%20Compatibility%20Guide.pdf) question was going for a laugh?

Have you considered sending it out to get unlocked? You could count on it being the correct ECM.

The vehicle needs to stay running. :hihi:
I will still need a stock file to compare to whatever PCM I use. :sly:

Still whatever ECM you buy unless its from an 09 G8 GT will need to be flashed with a Tech II before you can do anything with EFILive...

Mike, what have you gotten yourself into... :doh2:

Let this be a lesson for all of us.
If you are going to buy a used car, make sure the PCM isn't locked first.

Hope the first part isnt sarcastic? It sucks though, wish EFILive would develop the ability to read and reprogram the ETC CPU, but I doubt that will happen anytime soon. Would sure make conversions and engine swaps a lot easier. As for the second part, yea no kidding! My TBSS being my first car (02 is my parents that I drove from 16-20 yrs old), I havent had to deal with that yet. Yet. It will happen some day, I want a smaller car with a stick that I can play with. Cobalt SS T/C? :D

Check with some guys with workshops, one might have an extra 09 E38 they'd flash a G8 OS into it for ya and you can pay them a few bucks for their time and unlocking fee then swap ECMs with them. That is if they know how to unlock them and are willing to put in the time to unlock it. Could be cheaper than buying a used E38 and having to pay a dealer to flash it.

Wow, this sucks is what I meant. ;)

Seeing how a simple PCM swap and reflash is not possible.

It's been an equally impossible task to find a "simple" LS3 24x conversion for the Camaro. :lookaround:

I know, it does suck. I got lucky with my E67 swap that my donor ECM/TCM were from an 07 TBSS that use the same ETC setup as the 08s do so I could flash my 08 OS and everything works.

You want to take a stock LS3 and drop it in your old Camaro? I think right now you have to pull the cam and crank reluctors and install 24x/1x to run the LS1B PCM. :( Ive heard rumors LPE is working on a 24x->58x conversion box but no idea as to if its being made or what.

Yeah, I've got something kinda lined up for a reluctor & cam swap.
Right now it isn't a high priority though.

Mike,

Are you looking for a 58x crank -> 24x PCM converter...?

Like this: LPE-58x-to-24x-converter (http://www.lingenfelter.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=L460065397&Store_Code=LPE&Category_Code=C163)

Crap, thanks Joe. I was thinking the reverse, 24x crank -> 58x ECM. LPE already has the adapter to get a 58x engine running with a 24x controller.

I think the cam needs to be swapped as well. :nixweiss:
Reluctor swap labor is actually cheap compared to the cam labor. :sly:
And while the crank is out it might as well have a key-way cut into it too. :hihi:

joecar

The LPE module does 58x/4x->24x/1x conversion... i.e. both CKP and CMP.

ATI makes a crank pinning kit that can be used with their pulley/damper, no need to pull the crank.

MY PCM is now unlocked!

Does anyone care to guess what pathetic little device caused so much trouble? :hihi:

Here are the stock PCM & TCM files.

OnStar, XM Radio, iPod/Aux adapter or maybe a Bluetooth adapter. If not then its a probably a programmer, SCT/Hypertech?

LS2_Edit knockoff. (http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/product.phtml?p=1946) :yucky:

The nightmare is over now that my V2 has one less PCM & TCM license. :notacrook:

How did you get it fixed? Find the previous owner and flash it back to stock?

mr.prick
May 28th, 2011, 04:10 PM
Yep. :music_whistling_1:
He was nice enough to sell me the cable. :sneaky:

Now to learn myself how to log and tune the E38.
I might use the trans tune as the shifts were much firmer.

Wow, looking at that website its only good for 1 car anyway so it was worthless to him. Least you got it, I dont know what the software/hardware can do.

Can you use just the trans tune? That would give you a head start, just tune the engine and leave the trans alone!

mr.prick

I flashed both back to stock except the speedo tables need adjustment for 20" rims.
