I posted this question futher up and then realized its own thread may be better. I've got it all together but have no RPM signal. Where does the 06' GTO gather its RPM signal. System consists of L33 long block GTO tbody, intake, harness & PCM (haven't verified the PCM yet) Everything seems to work and the tuner says he can see everything but RPM's. Do I need to run the LS2 front cover, sensor & cam gear. Or does the L33 sensor send the same signals, is RPM even generated via cam?

I believe RPM comes from the Crank Position Sensor. I think some of the LS2s are 24x and
others are 58x

Me too, which brings back too pcm looking for a 58t while I have a 24t. Does anyone know if all the e40's are the same? can it run either 58t & 24t or are there two different pcm's?

I'm not sure if you can re-flash it or if you have to replace it, I know that EFI Live has limited
capability because it's so easy to brick those ECMs.

I can think of a few things I'd like to do to it with a brick.

LPE sells a 58x->24x module for converting the 58x pulsetrain to the equivalent 24x encoded pulsetrain for 411 and E40.
I think my problem is the reverse, I need a 24t to 58t. Seems I now have some sort of crank signal, coils and injectors have power while cranking. Fuel pump also comes on now while cranking. Neither coils or injectors are firing.

Hello Finiata,

I replied to the "E40 confusion" in the other thread (PCM Conversion). If memory serves, the L33 5.3 L is a Gen III engine. The GTO could have used a DBC TB (depending on year). To me, it would be "easier" to use an LS1-B PCM to control this setup. The LS1-B PCM has more support, is more user friendly / familiar with respect to tuning.

Not uncommon in early LS2 (24x / 1x) swaps to dump the E40, in favour of an LS1-B PCM.

As for the RPM issue - you already have that narrowed down to CKP sensor / signal.

Taz

The problem with that is that it's easy to reduce resolution, but impossible to increase it.
When you make a 8x10 photo into a wallet it looks great, try making a wallet into an 8x10.

E40s are ALL 24x, just like the LS1 PCM (use whichever you already have the correct throttle body/pedal setup for, but Id recommend LS1 for COS use).

And as Taz pointed out, E40s are all DBW so if you already have a DBC throttle body Id use a LS1 PCM.

If all E40s are 24x and all L33s are 24x, what else could the problem be ??

Ahhh. If it were only that simple. We're entering the next level in swapping. CAN-BUS. Not the mention big brother sticking his neck where it has no right. Short version, 06'car, 06' engine & 06' PCM. Crank sensor replaced and working, still no start. How can I tell if the 2 PCM's I have are indeed 24t or 58t?

If they are E40s they ARE 24x.

If they are E40s they ARE 24x.

What he said, ALL E40s = 24x. They CANNOT control a 58x engine.

That said, ARE they E40s? LS1B 1MB PCMs were still made up through 2007 in trucks, if the ECM is from an 06 GTO and has 3 connectors on it, its an E40. :)

OK OK......finiata take a picture of these ECMs and POST it !!

If the ECM is 24x and the engine is 24x what IS the problem ?

I thought the OP talked about doing a 58x conversion on his existing ECM (post #6) in order to diagnose the problem, there shouldnt be an issue now.

A pic of the ECM/PCM would be nice if you have a sec finiata!

Post #6 was based on the confusion about the E40. I believe the confusion prevented the
diagnosis of the problem.

Sorry guys seems I left everyone hanging. The moror is definetely a 24 as is the PCM, 3 plugs and has e40 on it inside the fins.. The only real problems now are the lack of tach signal and an open/closed loop problem (always running rich).
Thanks to everyone the car is bitchn' wicked fun :)

Well theres also AC and Cruise control to get figured out.
