View Full Version : Measuring timing-chain slack

I'd like to find out how much play there is between the spark & TDC. Basically how sloppy is the timing chain & distrib gear. The PCM does this already w/ DTC P1345. Is there some way to get this info w/ a V2? (Is it there an I'm not finding it, or EFIlive doesn't access that variable?)

I'm not seeing any PID for the CKP or CMP. Are these PID's avaiable? Even if they are, I'm doubting I could get accurate timing info to measure the time difference between the 2 signals. To be of any use, the signals would need to be sampled at the same time. I doubt ODB2 is capable of this.

If I could see or watch the P1345 difference number, this may be good enough. How difficult would this be to support?

It is a lot easier to hook up a laptop to see if your chain is sloppy, rather than pulling a timing chain cover. (Once pulled, these plastic timing covers can't be reused.)
