I have an L92 with a cam that may be shot. Its being pulled this week so I will see if its rebuildable.
Sadly, the L92 block appears to not be available so I can buy another used L92 - 9K miles on the motor (All aluminum 6.2)and swap my cam or
for pretty much the same price, get the LSX which is an Iron block 6.2 (about 120 lbs more).
PS, before my L92 blew it was putting down 430HP to the rear wheel with a 4 speed heavy duty tranny 4L70E.
The GM site numbers for the LSX are 450HP. I can reuse all my front accessory and intake parts + in both cases sell the L92 heads.
Anyone have any insight on which option would end up being best or general thoughts on the LSX?
Here is a link to the motor.

Thank you!

My opinion: for the same price the LSX 376 is all new parts and is ready to go.
What happened to your L92, it was at the tuner and you found metal fragments, has the cause been determined...?

Hello Patrick,
Truly sorry to hear that news ... that project has been a long road for you. Depending on what is / is not reusable from your current engine - a replacement block is around $1600 (give or take). PN 12584727 or 12623967.
If you are looking at GMPP engines ...
You mentioned the LSX376 (PN 19171049) which is around $5800. It is rated at 450 HP / 444 lb-ft. It is a "stripped" long block - no intake, exhaust manifolds, water pump, etc. I'm not certain if it comes with a warranty.
The LS376 / 480 (PN 19244549) is around $6600. It is rated at 480 HP / 475 lb-ft - and has a "hotter" camshaft. It is a "dressed" crate engine - includes intake, injectors, TB, coil packs, exhaust manifolds, and water pump. It also comes with a 24 month, 50,000 mile warranty.
Obviously there are plenty of other options ...

Taz

Sorry to hear about the metal coming out of the engine Pat. As Taz said its been a long ole road for you.
Personally I would go with the pull out or the 376/480 that Taz notes. But then I am a little biased to all aluminum engines. :) And the weight they save. The LSX376 is intended more for carb use which is why it comes manifold free. And the LSX CI blocks are really for max power applications. There are people that are getting 800-1000 HP out of AL blocks and stock cranks. FI of course :).

How much do you want to spend?
new LS3 longblock $4700 (http://www.superchevyperformance.com/19181068_LS3_6_2L_Crate_Engine_p/19181068.htm)
used LS3 shortblock $2500 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LS3-6-2L-V8-Short-Block-Camaro-Shortblock-LS1-LS2-LS7-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4aad3d8787QQitemZ32073 4070663QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso ries)

The dyno place is pulling the motor for free this week so we can see what happened. I will take photos.
These are great leads for me guys. Thanks so much.

Post mortem pics in the attachment signature line.
Any ideas as to what causes a flaking bearing on an L92 crank? See pic 0687.
I have a new block/motor coming. It took out the cam too.

What did you end up getting and where did you get it? :lookaround:

Usually lack of good oil at reasonable pressure under power. :( Or filter clogged and bypassing with junk in the oil. Or plain old wear.

I went with the LSX 376 from a dealer. Forged internals and ready for a supercharger later on. + got to reuse all the old stuff. No core charge.
120 lbs more with 450HP
