View Full Version : Is the 4.8 PCM the same as the 5.7,6.0L?

I have a customer who wants us to install either a 5.7 OR 6.0l engine in his 4.8L truck. Is there any issue keeping that PCM to operate the larger motors? I would think there shouldn't be but wanted to confirm.

Obviously the injectors will have to be changed....

Thanks

Howard

Correct cylinder volume. I am not so much as wondering about the software requirements as the 4.8-6.0 all seem to function the same. I was just wondering if the actual processor was the same.

Yep, same pcm. Guys on performancetrucks.net do the 6L swap all the time. As for the injectors, from the factory, the 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 all came with the same 25.4 lbs/hr injectors. If the truck is a 99 or 00, you will want to change the pcm to a 01 or 02, as the 99's pcm had a real problem with false knock. 03 and up pcm, can't be used in earlier trucks, as they have the 1 meg flash memory, where 02 and down have 512k. 99's also only came with 19.8 lbs/hr injectors.

Great info. The truck is an 01' so that's a good start!
