My stock settings in the pcm for fan settings are as follows:
Fan 1 on 108
Fan 1 off 104

Fan 2 on 112
Fan 2 off 109

I have talked to other that have settings like this:
Fan #1 on 180, off 172
Fan #2 on 185, off 180

Why is there such a difference? I have a 160 stat in my car. Did the factory set my fans that low for a reason?

I have never seen fan settings like that on all the stock tunes I have looked at. Could someone have changed them before you bought the car?

Joe you are right...here are my settings:
Stock settings:
Fan 1 on 108<c> 226<f> off 104<c> 219<f>
Fan 2 on 112<c> 233<f> off 109<c> 228<f>

I changed them to the following:
Fan #1 on 82<c> 180<f>, off 77<c> 172<f>
Fan #2 on 85<c> 185<f>, off 82<c> 180<f>

Wow I could not believe the stock setting were so high. No wonder I never heard the second fan come on. I will keep these setting to see over a long period of time if the car changes. Does anyone know what things should benefit from such a big temp drop???

A couple of thoughts...

1) fans should not be set to run while you drive down the highway. The air blowing through the radiator is enough to keep the engine cool even here in Florida when it's 100F.

2) If you want the engine "cooled" for drag racing stints do it with a flash update to the fan settings before you race OR do what I did and install an SLP fan switch.

The engine needs to be warm to run efficiently so let it run at stock temperatures (or close to it). I added 2 LEDs to my fan switch that let me know when and which fan is running. My initial tuner set my fans to keep the car cool and I had my low fan running constantly even down the highway and that is just plain dumb. He also talked me into putting in a 160 T-stat and I also rue that decision and will probably put the stock t-stat in when the weather gets a little warmer. The 160 t-stat really doesn't do anything except allow the coolant to flow sooner and hold the engine from dropping below 160. The fan settings are the key to controlling the coolant temp in the engine. I always seem to dyno better on the 2nd and 3rd run. Do you run better on a hot lap? Probably, but obviously too hot is bad so a little temp control is a good thing.

Just a geezer's thoughts on the fan and t-stat venue.

Do I run stock fan settings? My fan settings are:
Fan#1 Turn on 207F Turn off 222F
Fan#2 Turn on 223F Turn off 234F

These are lower than stock but these setting keep the fans from running while I drive on the interstate at 75MPH, with the AC on, listening to Shania! :D

Here is a few things to ponder.

1) G0909 - This table is a Temp table. If the car is shut down and the car's temp is 235* or higher, the fans stay on for a period of time {G0910}. Set the temp in G0909 so that it is 176* and the fans will stay on for however long you want after you shut it off.

2) Use the bi-directional controls to keep the fans on as long as you like.

You can set G0904 "Fan#1 Turn Off Speed" and G0920 "Fan #1 and #2 Both Off Speed" so that the fans will be off during highway cruising regardless of fan on/off temps.

True, now that I have this software. :D The lower fan settings just don't seem to net me much unless I am trying to dyno or race at the track. Why run the fans unless there is a "special" need? Disabling the fans at highway speed might come back to bite ya on the butt. :nixweiss:

Actually, the description for G0920 is "Above this vehicle speed, both fans will be switched off unless above engine coolant temperature turn on thresholds."

So according to that, you can have the best of both worlds.

My stock file has the turn off speed for fan 1 at 35 and for both fans at 65.

Ok bringing this back cause I heard it might be best to keep a ls1 on the stock t-stat and just to turn the fan temp down a little. What would be some good temps I could set them too?
