View Full Version : Pinout for T42 as connected to a 4L80e in a 2007/2008 Van or Truck?

I've been scouring the 'net looking for the T42 connector pinout as connected to a 4L80e. Have not found one.

Does anyone have one they can post, or, can anyone conform or deny that the signal lines are the same as the 4L65e? (At least the one they have in common?)

I know the 4L80e is going to have one or two extra lines for the ISS. And it will not have 3-2 control solenoid or TCC on/off.

I'm asking because, although I have been planning on building an interface cable to use the 4L65e program to control the 4L80e, I'm also toying with the idea of loading a 4L80e OS into my T42 to see if it will work with the E40 as-is. I'm just not certain if the wiring is compatible (besides what I mentioned above).

Thanks!

I can lookup those pinouts in the GM Service Manual...

2007/2008 which model Van/Truck...?

2007/2008 which model Van/Truck...?

Anything with a 4L80e controlled by a T42. It looks like 2007 Yukon, 2008 Silverado, 2008 Express Van. (These are what I've found tunes for)

I have the service manual for my '06 GTO, so I can reference that for the T42 pinouts as connected to a 4L65e. I want to re-pin my harness for a 4L80e (using the pinout from one of the above truck/van) and try loading a 4L80e OS into the T42....before I go through the effort of building a converter box with relays and whatnot to run the 4L80e from the 4L65e control program.

I know the converter box would work, but using the T42 with a 4L80e OS would be easier I would think. I'll just need to add the ISS signal wires and remove a couple other signal wires (3-2 control solenoid and TCC on/off) and reuse them for the ISS perhaps.

Thank you Joecar!

Here's the T42 to 4L65e connector pinout.

Thanks doupledip! Is there another one of these for the 4L80e? I see this show a 3-2 solenoid and a TCC solenoid (non-pwm) which the 4L80e does not have. But this does show the ISS which I definitely need to know, since my '06 does not have this connection and the 4L80e will. I'm willing to bet it's on the same pins.

Thanks again!

the 2008 silverado has the same... why doesnt the 4l80e have a 3/2? i thought it was the same as a 4l60/65 just bigger gears/shafts/planetary's etc...

Hello Mike,

Apparently I don't have the software to open the links Doubledip posted ... attached is a *.PDF file of your GTO 4L65 TCM connector and a 2008 Express 4L80 TCM connector. My apologies if this has already been posted.

Taz

the 2008 silverado has the same... why doesnt the 4l80e have a 3/2? i thought it was the same as a 4l60/65 just bigger gears/shafts/planetary's etc...4L80E/85E is a different design than the 4L60E/65E/70E...

compare these two threads:
4L80E-Reference-Material (http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?4305-4L80E-Reference-Material)
4L60E-Reference-Material (http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?4304-4L60E-Reference-Material)

[ The 4L80E/85E is the electronic update (and adding overdrive) of the old 3 speed THM-400 ]
[ The 4L60E/65E/70E is the electronic update of the old 4 speed 700-R4 (which is different than the old 3 speed THM-350) ]

The 3-2 solenoid found in the 4L60E is not a shift solenoid... it controls the fluid exit rate from the 3rd accumulator (which is the 2/4 servo unstroking/releasing the band on the 2-3 upshift)... i.e. the 3-2 solenoid controls the rate of band apply on the 3-2 downshift (it's proper name is 3-2 control solenoid);

GM eliminated the 3-2 solenoid on later 4L65E and all 4L70E (I'm reasonably sure, but can someone verify this).

You can safely ignore it when wiring to the 4L80E connector.

I was wrong about the Silverado. I bought and downloaded a digital copy of the entire 2007-2009 Silverado (2500/3500 HD included) service manual and it only has transmission sections for (4L60e/4L65e/4L70e), (Allison), and (6L50/6L80/6L90). No mention anywhere of 4L80e.

Taz,

Thank you! That's exactly what I needed.

If anyone wants any info from the 2007 thru 2009 Silverado service manual, feel free to ask. I guess if I ever decide to try a 6L90 or an Allison, I'll have the info. :)

Oh, and the MDI files are Microsoft Office Document Imaging. Not normally installed with MS Office, I had to install the feature from my existing Office suite. There's a free viewer available from MS as well.

That looks to be it! Strange how the service manual I D/L'd doesn't have this. Thank you doubledip!

Looks like the 3-2 shift solenoid was eliminated in the 2009 model year - at least for trucks - other models may vary.
