Who you might ask? well, with all the fuss over Mr Apple passing away over the last week or so, it's a shame someone who was truly influential in computing (i.e, not marketing a 'brand') died this week too and this certainly never made the 6pm news.
C programmers and Unix/Linux people will know all about this man. See HERE (http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/oct/16/john-naughton-dennis-ritchie-unix?newsfeed=true) for an article on why this man was so important to get computing to where it is today.

Dennis Ritchie and others at Bell Labs created brilliant Computer Science and made it available to everyone...

the stuff that came out of Bell Labs is at the core of pretty much every significant hardware/software (including Apple computers/phones/pads).

His C book is simple, to-the-point and timeless, I keep reading it over and over.

Wow, RIP Dennis.

Im ashamed to say I hadn't heard of him before the last 24 hours but Ive dabbled enough in CS that I feel I should. What a great contribution to CS, Dennis will be missed.
