What ecu's will run a 6l80e? I know the ls1 will not, but what model engine and year can with the ecu that will run this trans?

I am looking for a engine to buy that will run my 6l80e...

-Will the 5.3 ecu's work?
-Will the Vortec max 6.0 ecu work?

If so, what years? What is the number of the ecu that is capable?

A6 (6L80/6L90) have their own controller - T43 TCM - inside the pan attached to the valve body ... this is what controls the transmission.

What model is your A6 transmission from ? I would recommend using the ECM and OS that was originally paired with your transmission from the OEM.

Mixing and matching TCM & ECM can lead to driveability issues, if they work together at all. Some have done a certain amount of intermixing of these ... but often after a great deal of trial and error.

Thanks,. been out of the game for about 5 years now since I built that 1000hp twin turbo Ls1 Chevelle...

I picked up a 2010 escalade trans.

I am asking because I am doing another twin turbo setup for a truck. I am going for mileage and power this time so I am looking at some 5.3 engines as a platform for the new 1000hp setup.

So if they have there own controller, will they run behind any year or model LS engine? Please fill me in on this if you can....

I wish it were that easy. My comfort zone is the Gen III, just starting to work with the Gen IV. The A6 can be "fussy" about the ECM it is paired with. The 2007 to 2009 A6s use a similar TCM - 2010 saw a new T43 introduced (except for Camaros).

Your 2010 A6 will probably cause you some grief to get working in a swap. I would recommend using a 2010 E38 ECM, loaded with an Escalade tune of the same VIN that is in the A6.

I would also recommend reading the entire "6 Speed RWD / FWD Transmission Tuning (incl T43)" section of this Forum. You are about to learn a great deal via this swap.

What vehocles used a E38 ecm? How can I find that out? I wonder if the newer 5.3 runs a E38...

A 2010 E38 will probably use service number 12633238. E38s were used in trucks / SUVs / Corvettes / Camaros and other vehicles. Bench read the calibration in your A6 - then have the donor 2010 E38 flashed with the Escalade calibration of that same VIN.

Couldnt I use a E38 from any make or model or year and reflash it with the 2010 Escalade setup? Or for that matter, the 2010 5.3 liter trucks came with the 6l80e, so couldnt I use thos for a flash also?

E38 ECMs are not like LS1-B PCMs. E38 OSs are model year dependent, and each model year E38 will have a similar service number. The short answer is, to flash a 2010 E38 OS, requires a 2010 E38 ECM.

You could try using a 2010 5.3 L calibration from a pickup or Tahoe - it will probably work with your A6 - no guarantees.

You may want to read a lot more about A6 swaps before you begin ... especially with a 2010 model year transmission.
