Hello all
Just in the process of repairing the flash on a LS1 pcm. I intend to fit am29f400bb flash memory but have noticed a slight difference in the pinout.
Will EFIlive still read and write to the new flash memory once I purchase a licence?

What is the difference in the pinout...?
What was the flash part previously on the board...?

which PCM is it?

The original was the Intel AB28F400BX.
The pinout difference is in pin 1 and 2.
Pin IntelPin AMDPin Description
1 VPP NC Program/Erase Power
2 WP# RY/BY# Write Protect Input (Intel) /
Ready/Busy Signal (AMD)
Having a look through the data sheet looks like the programming and erase commands are diffrent too.

Looks like the chip has been off it a few times before. Board cleaned up ok but the chip has see better days. And im having problems sourcing the intel part.

hmm so the reading and writing with EFILive was the issue JezzaB?

Works fine, seen plenty of them installed OEM. I do a lot of PCM repairs.
AB28F400 are Boot Block flash memory from INTEL (since spun off to someone, can't recall who right now)
AM29F400 are Boot Block flash memory from AMD (since spun off memory business to Spansion), so IF you see a spansion part, probably a S29F400BB.
What you cannot use is a 29F400BT, those are Top Boot Block and configured differently and won't work properly.
B5, Bx, BB's all work fine. Same goes for the 29F800 and 28F800's. (AMD vs Intel).
I don't see too many AMD parts, they are the second source supplier. But I feel the AMD parts are a bit easier to program on my programmer. Intel parts are always fussy....

ah ok cool... have seen heaps of AMD A29's in the 1 meg PCM's and 1 Intel in them... but never the other way round in the 512's

I think I have seen 1 AM29F400 so far. I have seen more AM29F400's in trans controllers.... :)

Sorry my mistake. I had put in a AM29F800. But then again, back then it was a pretty hack soldering job lol

I was thinking of messing with that, did it work at all? Might need a hacked up .bin file to do it. Pretty sure it can be done. GM does it OEM on the 3800's. My L67 is a 1MB chip with a 512k file factory.
Yeah, if you are using a soldering iron I don't wanna see the work! :) Hot air is the only way to do it non destructively.
