View Full Version : What is star connector / Show yer bench setups

Hello,
Just getting started here. In the tuning manual on the subject of Reflashing the PCM, it states "Alternatively, the PCM may be left in the vehicle, provided that a STAR connector used to isolate the PCM from the class-2 network during reflashing."

I take it to mean this is some sort of ground isolation? The class-2 network is the Flashscan?

Is anybody willing to show pics / info about their bench setups?

TIA,

Harrison

The Class-2 network is the data link connecting all the vehicle modules (PCM, ABS, SIR, IPC, BCM, etc...);
FlashScan uses this network to communicate with the PCM.

Sometimes on some vehicles, the other modules may try to communicate with the PCM while FlashScan is flashing it.

The Star connector isolates the PCM from the rest of the network so the other modules can't interrupt the PCM.

This is only needed on some vehicles only, and it seems most people are okay without it;
you should not need one on your F-body.

Thanks Joe, I printed that out as with all the other really cool tutorials. I was just wondering what people were making their bench harnesses out of? Going to the junk yard or buying new harnesses and what kind of power supplies they were using? The nuts, bolts, flux caps, jiggywatts, to make a bench set up.

Not 100% on topic, but does anyone have a clue on where to acquire an OBD-II connector with some wires on it ?

I am going to be installing this PCM and LS1 in my Typhoon which doesnt have an OBD-II style connector (is the older ALDL style setup)... Unfortunately all I got was the UNDERHOOD harness (not the dash harness). I would like to score one ahead of time.

The recycle yards around here are real d!ckheads about cutting stuff like that out of a wreck (they want to sell entire interior complete). And the hassle involved would be easier to just get one from a vendor.

It might not show on this website http://www.ledfoote.com/osc/index.php but try contacting Ledfoote ("Contact Us");
they have connectors not shown on their webpage.

Chuck,
They just recently changed the website and I can't find the link to the doc.

If I remember correctly, this doc is included in the EFILive software install;
check Program Files->EFILive->V7->Doc->Tutorials on your PC.

Regards
Joe
