Can't connect to newer model vehicles..

I'm having an issue connecting to newer model vehicles. I primarily use EFI for my 00 silverado but I want to connect to my father-in-law's truck which is an 07 silverado to read the trouble code and I can't connect. I then updated my V7.5 and tried again with still no luck. I tried to connect to my 09 tahoe and can't get it either. What's the deal??

When you update the software you must also update the V2 firmware, did you do that as well?

I'm not sure. I went to start -> programs -> efi live -> tools -> check for updates and let it do it's thing..

You also need to go into EFI Live explorer and update the firmware and bootblock.

Do NOT use the Check for Update feature. There are lots of problems with it, EFILive has moved to a different installer/updater program as of RC7. Download the V7.5 and V8 software from this thread: Release Candidate 7-Dec-22-2011 (http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?18000-Release-Candidate-7-Dec-22-2011). Then uninstall your old software and install the new ones. Plug your V2 in, then open V8 S&T and V8 HAPI to update the firmware of your V2 (I assume you have a V2, a V1 will not read/flash a CAN-controller or pretty much anything from 07+).

I do not have V2 I have FSP V1.2. I sometimes wonder if all the updates are even worth it....

First, is it a new body style truck (GMT900) or an old body style (like your 00, GMT800)? If its an old body style you can scan/read/tune it, if its a NBS truck then you'll have to upgrade to a V2 Im afraid.

Ok that clears it up. Kinda what I gathered from everything I've been reading. I don't see the V2 being any kind of "upgrade" for me. I'm sure it has it's ups from my V1 but prob not worth the money..

Depends what you do, for most people a V2 is a necessity to tune their vehicle. In your case, it isnt so unless you want to take advantage of the standalone reading/flashing features and serial wideband input, its not worth the upgrade. I have to say though, it is really handy having a tow tune sitting on my V2 that I can flash in about 15 sec without looking for my laptop... :D

Sorry OP, I wrongly assumed you had the updated hardware. When we designed the V1.2 hardware CAN communications like on today's cars wasn't even used on GM's vehicles so it was not something considered at design stage. When GM started going CAN in 2006 we had to have new hardware to talk to these cars, hence the V2.
