Can efilive adjust the speedo itself so instead of the top speed of my 98 firebird is 155 on the gauge it would be 200 at that same point? Guys getting out of the overlay business and he can recalibrate the cluster itself so it reads up to 200 mph. Im wondering if I can change the in the PCM or is the only way to redo the cluster? That make sense?
Thanks

There's a "speedo" section at the bottom of the calibration list, I'm sure that you could manipulate the numbers in there (have a play with the "speedo calculator" function) to do what you want however, I think that technically you should recalibrate the speedo itself.

Hello Cool28,
The PCM will output a speedometer signal of 4000 pulses per mile. Your OEM speedometer is calibrated for this signal input. Whether the IPC is from a Corvette, Camaro, or Truck - they all receive a 4K input - yet the speedometer needle will move through a different angle / distance on different OEM IPCs to display the correct speed. This is a product of each IPCs internal programming.
Many aftermarket electric speedometers are calibrated by driving the vehicle a known distance, etc.
The calibration you seem to be asking about is the distance / angle the speedometer needle will move per 4K pulse input, so that it will point to the correct number (speed) with the new overlay. That calibration is within the IPC itself - not sure if your associate is able to reprogram the IPC to that level.

That approach may get your speedometer needle to point at the correct number on the new overlay - but it would completely muddle your shift speeds with your 4L80 transmission - as you are essentially programming false vehicle speed data.

Taz is right, I should have pointed that out, you'd have to go through the entire tune and calculate (that'd suck) new shift speeds, DFCO speeds, Lean cruise speeds, and just about anything else that is speed driven as well, needless to say, it wouldn't read out what the speed on your speedo would say... hence "technically correct to recalibrate the speedo"

Ok so I'll just pay the 300 buck to have redo the cluster. Thanks for the quick response. Ya the guy can do it now I know why it costs so much lol

I'm the guy who calibrates them. I'll have to check if I still have the parts to do a 98. I know I have some for the later ones, but the 97-98 is different.

You're in luck, there's still a few in the jar.

You can do it with EFILive, but you can't make the speedometer and odometer correct at the same time.

Cool so how I take the cluster out >.>.

Make sure you get the new face first! Pull the piece below the wheel, drop the wheel by loosening the nuts but you don't need to drop them all the way. Pull the screws holding the bezel, 4 I think and remove it. Be careful of the air bag wires. Pull the screws holding the cluster rotate the cluster bottom up and it should come right out. The battery will not charge without the cluster installed.
