View Full Version : Lost dash with reflash, please look at my tune! Are Corvettes more gay than trucks?

Let me start by stating that this is on a Corvette, so it's probably weird like a Cadillac. I never had any trouble flashing my truck or my dad's blazer, but holy hell has this car put me through the ringer since I started attempting to make things better on this car. First the CAI didn't fit, then the wrong plugs, then a busted plug wire (it's only a big deal because I refuse to run aftermarket wires and have to wait for them to come in the mail), then a CEL from the CAI, and now this. I changed a few basic things until I figure out why I can't use the scan tool such as fan temps, PE AFRs, disabled cat protection mode, and maxxed BTM. I was gonna screw with the fuel economy output too but forgot. So I flashed this tune to my PCM, and after multiple attempts it finally took. When it did, I had no gauges, no dash lights, and the DIC was stuck on displaying coolant temp 147 even though it wasn't and even with the car off! My HUD was also not impressed with my initial tune. When I flashed cal only back to stock, all is well. I didn't spend money on a license just to have a stock car, so I'd really like to figure this out. I've done some searching, and haven't seen anything like this yet which is usually the case for me. . .12742

Is this thread on the same vehicle:

Yep, same vehicle. So I'm not doing something wrong?

Is the file you attempted to flash in an edit of what was initially read out...?

I take it you did a cal only flash when dash/DIC/HUD had fits...?

Yes, I pulled the stock tune, saved it (thank god), then made my edits and saved as the file above and flashed it onto the PCM. I did cal only flashes and the tune above caused the dash/DIC/HUD to flip out. I'm running EFILive V7.5.5 build 72. Since the license I downloaded is newer than the software, could that be causing an issue? The website only spec'd 7.5 or newer, which I do have. I had no idea cal only could wreak so much havoc on stuff I didn't see a way to screw with.

Ok, do this: download and install the V7.5 software from here: EFILive build 180 download (http://www.efilive.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=133)

Do you have a FlashScan V1 or V2...?

V2, but how do I update the firmware? The info thread only describes V8, V7 doesn't have the "Explorer" function. I'm looking at the FlashScan Firmware Programmer right now but I'm scared to screw something else up. Will I need to start over with the tune now with the new software? Will all my old tunes from the old software be junk now too?

Download and install the latest software from our web site here:
http://www.efilive.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=133
Download and install both V7.5 and V8 software.

Then read the document: Start->All Programs->EFILive->V8->Documents->Upgrading FlashScan
That document explains how to get your firmware up to date.

To summarize the document, what you need to do is:
1. Use the EFILive V7.5 program: Start->All Programs->EFILive->V7.5->EFILive Firmware Programmer to upgrade your firmware to V2.04.72. It MUST be upgraded to V2.04.72 before you start on step 2.
2. Use the built in boot block upgrade option on FlashScan's menu to upgrade the boot block to V2.05.xx
3. Use the EFILive V8 program: Start->All Programs->EFILive->V8->EFILive Explorer to upgrade the boot block and firmware to V2.07.xx

Upgrading the software and/or firmware will not cause any of your tunes or licenses to become unusable.
However, before doing the upgrade make a backup of all your tune files and log files just in case something does go wrong during the upgrade.

Paul

My 01 vette is a pain sometimes after flashing as I lose bcm and pcm com. The dash is then useless until I reflash then all is well. I've since swapped to os 12212156 an using cos5 have had no issues

The Corvette is finnicky. I don't have any issues reflashing my '04 Z06 so long as I make certain everything is turned off before I begin the flash. Do not turn anything on or roll a window up/down or open a door/trunk. Any time I have changed anything electrical during a reflash, all sorts of things go wrong.

So what you're saying is, before I got halfway into the middle of a software update, another attempt to flash the same modified tune would have possibly worked? I'll leave the radio off next time.

If your referring to me, then yes I would have tried another flash if the dash had no response immediately after a .tun flash

Just had the same problem here on a 99 vette. No HUD or dash gauges.
Did a call flash again no other changes and all was well.

That ended up being it for me too, I've flashed a few times since then and it hasn't pulled anything.
