This doen't really belong here, but since it is LS1Gen3 related....

Might anyone know the max operating temp of the LS2 truck coils?

I am creating an ignition system for an unrelated engine,
and in my test setup the max current draw is 2.4A at 3800 rpm, and the coil, after about 2 1/2 hours was 300 plus degrees.
It still operated just fine, but I'm concerned about the somewhat high temp. That was with the coil in free air.

anyone?

Hmmmm...
Maybe someone with a truck and a temp probe could shoot a reading from a coil on a warmed up, running engine?

Late answering!
08 1500 truck: Ambient 80*F, engine op temp, [25 mi drive], 210. [Dash ga.]
All dr side coils are at 143*F, all pass side 141*. [Engine running].

Chuck L.,
Thanks VERY much!
I guess 300+ is way too hot, I'll have to close the gap and shorten the dwell....

My experience with electric motors is to keep them below the boiling temp of water. I would imagine coils would be the same.

The key is to keep the coil's internal temperature lower than the temperature at which the wound coil wire insulation melts (I'm not sure what that is).
