View Full Version : DSP5 Tune Loading Issues with New EFI Update

Well, I broke down and loaded the new update from EFI's website last night and sure enough it opened up a can of worms for new problems for me. Up til now, I have used the V7 Tune and V7 Scan Tools only and have not messed with this V8 front or black box logging.

So once I loaded the new software I thought I would load some PIDs so I could do Black Box Logging. This worked fine and I was able to read/log the data on the Flashscan box. More on this later.

I then made a change to my DSP5 tune for my LB7 and went to flash it in. I tried to full flash in the V7 tune tool as I have always done and it said something about firmware and bootlock. I checked these in the EFI Control Panel and both said that my versions from 2011 were "OK". I hit refresh and nothing changed.

So I went to the V8 Tune screen (first time I have done this) and tried to open the tune from there. Well, then I realized that the ctd file format that it wanted wasnt there, so I opened my .tun file and tried to flash it, didn't work. So then I saved it as a .ctd file and reopened, tried to reflash and again got "Full Flash not supported for E54 controller". At this point I am thinking WTF and glad this is happening on my own truck and not in front of a customer.

Then I tried a partial flash of the DSP5 tune which I know won't work on an LB7 and I got a "This ECM has a Lock Key" or something along those lines and I have never password locked my ECM.

Needless to say at this point I am hot (100 degrees out) and pissed, so I go back to the Black Box Logging. I was able to read/log the data on the box, but when I tried to use the V8 to "READ" the data from the box to the computer, it saved it to the computer as a .txt file which the V7 Scan tool is unable to open for viewing. I did not have an SD Card in the Flashscan box, just wanted to see if I could log it to the box and review it on my computer and I could not because I could not open the file.

I have used EFI Live for 3 years but with this new update and with the addition of this V8 stuff, I am back to square one where I can't do anything. GMPX, can you give me the step by step on how to load tunes these days and how to pull data from the BBx Logger and open it in the V7 Scan tool for review?

Bump.
Was hoping to get a reply from EFI Live by the end of the day as I wanted to get this latest tune loaded tonight. I guess my first question is will I be able to partial and full flash from V7 Tune tool anymore or do I have to use this V8 window?

If you can save as CTD, then you don't have the updated software.

Well, thanks for the info IdahoRob. It is always nice when the big guy helps out the little guy like myself. This new update required me to completely uninstall my old EFI Live software so it could load the new version, so I would have thought that it was the latest and greatest.

I should have tried restarting my computer after downloading the new software, although I doubt that would have helped me with the issues I was having. I must be getting old (and I am only 26) because I am to the point where I don't like change. I have been fine over the last 3 years without all of this V8 fanciness, but I am sure once I figure it out I will like it.

Your first post was a 1am NZ time, which will explain why you didn't get a response. Your second post was at 6am NZ time.

Ross is located in Australia, so time frames for him are a further 2 hours behind (ie your first post was at 11pm)

All our software/firmware was last updated on June 22, You need to ensure you are running those builds.

V7.5.7 Build 211. In either the tune or scan tool, click on HELP>About to see your version number.
V8.2.1 Build 203 When you open V8 Scan and Tune you'll see the version number detailed on the RHS.
Firmware V2.07.35 Depending on what you are upgrading from, will depend on the process you need to follow.

Cheers
